The Kokstad Advertiser is the longest running independent community newspaper which has proudly served Kokstad and the surrounding communities for over 140 years. It is a weekly newspaper distributing 12 000 copies every Thursday, which was started by an African American, Hubert Stephan “Yankee” Wood. The first publication of this newspaper was published on 6 May 1882. The objectives of this newsp
aper are very clearly set out in its first edition and we are sure the high principles displayed then have been continued over the 100 years. To this day, the Kokstad Advertiser is the most popular local newspaper in The East Griqualand and Northern Eastern Cape areas bringing it’s readers the very latest in community news, school news, municipal affairs and local sport.
