NEWS FROM THE 19TH HOLE...

The 4th round of the Ladybrand Business League 2026, sponsored by Incredible 4, was played on 6th June 2026 at Ladybrand Golf Club.
The results are as follows: Maluti Media 9 – Incredible4 3, Ottershaw Beefmaster 7 – Wild Cats 5, Shield Security 10 – Riverpal 2, Spizzy Pizza 11 – OVK2 1, OVK1 8 – Vastrap Boran 4 and Sasai Econet 8 – SBV SU 4. The I.P.S. results were: 1st Yung Chen 38, 2nd Gerhard Cronje 37, 3rd Thabang Khabo 37, 4th André Scheepers 36, 5th Kamohelo Semuli 35 and 6th Wynand van Niekerk 35.
Helen, Alrich and Thinus all got a 2 club on the 5th Hole. Wayne got a 2 club on the 17th Hole and Wynand on the 11th Hole. The horse, Thabang Khabo, ridden by Martin Thoabala won with 37 points.

FIRST FRIENDLY NETBALL MATCH A GREAT SUCCESS

Little Stars Primary proudly hosted its first friendly netball match with Ladybrand Primary School on 28th May 2026.
The event marked an important milestone for our school and provided learners with an opportunity to participate in competitive sport while demonstrating teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Learners from both schools played with enthusiasm and determination, creating an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone involved. The friendly match also served as an opportunity to build relationships between the two schools and encourage a healthy sporting culture among learners.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Ladybrand Primary School, the coaches, players, staff, and supporters who contributed to the success of the event.
We also thank our parents and community members for their continued support.
We look forward to many more sporting exchanges in the future as we continue to promote holistic development through education and sport.

“Jammer, u kaart is geweier”… hierdie woorde laat ‘n mens se selfvertroue so vinnig verdamp soos die spreekwoordelike mis voor die son. Jy wil skree: DAAR IS VOLDOENDE FONDSE! Een oomblik staan jy soos 'n finansiële reus by die betaalpunt. Die volgende oomblik voel jy soos iemand wat sy laaste twee rand aan kougom bestee het. Die kassier is gewoonlik non-chalant. Sy sê dit kliphard met die simpatie van ‘n wasgoedplank. Die masjien piep ook hard genoeg dat almal in die winkel weet hier is moeilikheid. Hulle rek hulle nekke soos ‘n petshop slangetjie om tog te sien wie nou weer buite hulle begroting gekoop het. Skielik begin die groot kaartsoektog. Eers kom die bankkaart uit. Weier. Dan die kredietkaart. Weier. Nou raak die situasie ernstig. Die beursie word oopgevlek soos 'n familiealbum. Pensioenkaart. Mediese fondskaart. Biblioteekkaart. Studentekaart van 1987. Bestuurslisensie. Selfs 'n ou videowinkelkaart waarvan die winkel al twintig jaar terug gesluit is. “Probeer hierdie een,” sê die eienaar hoopvol. “Dis 'n Clicks-kliëntekaart, Meneer.” By kerkbazaars is dit nog erger. Die tannies agter die poedingtafel probeer om nie té opsigtelik toe te kyk nie. Iemand fluister (ook benoud) dat die ekonomie besig is om in duie te stort. Nog iemand bied aan om die koeksisters terug te sit. Dan, net toe almal begin wonder waarheen die persoon gaan verhuis ná hierdie openbare vernedering, kom die sateliete weer in lyn, die sein word sterker en alle kaarte gaan seepglad deur. Die verligting kan nie beskryf word nie…tegnologie is seker een van dié simpelste goed…as dit nie werk nie.

LITTLE STARS VISIT ANTIGRAVITY

The Foundation Phase Little Star learners recently bounced their way into an unforgettable adventure at Antigravity, a local hotspot featuring a giant jumping castle and trampoline park.
The trip was filled with laughter, energy, and plenty of high-flying fun.
From the moment the children stepped inside, their excitement was contagious. The trampoline zone quickly became a favorite, with learners testing their balance, practicing flips, and enjoying the thrill of soaring through the air.
The massive jumping castle offered another highlight, where teamwork and imagination turned every bounce into a new game.
Teachers and staff were equally delighted, watching their students build confidence, coordination, and friendships in such a joyful environment. “It was more than just play,” one teacher remarked. “The children learned about sharing space, supporting one another, and celebrating each small achievement.”
Parents praised the outing for giving learners a safe, active experience that blended fun with developmental growth.
The day ended with tired but happy faces, proving that sometimes the best lessons happen outside the classroom in places where gravity feels optional.

FORMER LADYBRAND HIGH SCHOOL DUX STUDENT CONTINUES TO EXCEL

The Ladybrand community has every reason to celebrate the remarkable achievements of former Ladybrand High School Dux student, Charlize Saayman, whose academic journey continues to inspire young people across the region.
Charlize matriculated from Ladybrand High School in 2020 after an outstanding school career. She took a gap year in 2021 before embarking on her tertiary studies in 2022, enrolling for a B.Sc. in Forensic Science at the University of the Free State. Her dedication to academic excellence did not stop there. In 2025, she successfully completed her BMedScHonours degree in Anatomy and Cell Morphology with distinction.
In recognition of her exceptional performance, Charlize was awarded the prestigious Faculty of Health Sciences Floating Trophy and Dean’s Medal for achieving the best results in a Bachelor's Honours degree within the Faculty of Health Sciencesas, provided that the qualification was obtained with distinction. This honour reflects not only her academic ability, but also her unwavering commitment to excellence.
Charlize is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Anatomy and Cell Morphology, further building on an already impressive academic record.
The daughter of Joseph and Patricia Saayman of Ladybrand, Charlize displayed extraordinary dedication throughout her school years. From Grade 8 to Grade 12, she consistently maintained the top academic position in her grade, a testament to her hard work, discipline and determination. Those who know Charlize describe her as a principled young woman who embraces every opportunity that comes her way.
At a time when mediocrity is often accepted as the norm, she stands as a shining example of what can be achieved through perseverance, focus and a commitment to one's goals.
Ladybrand High School, together with the wider community, is immensely proud of Charlize's accomplishments. Her success serves as an inspiration to current learners and a reminder that dedication and hard work continue to open doors to extraordinary opportunities. Congratulations to Charlize and her parents on this outstanding achievement.

Daar is min dinge wat 'n mens se bloeddruk so vinnig laat styg soos daardie woorde: "Ons d**k daaraan om bietjie by julle te kom kuier." Kuier. By ons. Vir 'n paar dae. Dis gewoonlik familie ook. Familie so verlangs dat jy eers die stamboom moet gaan raadpleeg om uit te vind op watter tak hulle nou eintlik sit. Ek het jare gelede reeds besluit my huis is nie 'n kuiermenshuis nie. Ek hou van mense, maar op hulle eie perseel. Sodra die besoek aangekondig word, begin die groot paniek. Skielik sien jy dinge wat jy vir jare nie raakgesien het nie. Die ligskakelaars word afgeskroef en geskrop totdat hulle soos splinternuwe porselein blink. Die meubels wat sedert Jacobus Johannes van Riebeeck se tyd nie geskuif is nie, word verskuif. Onder die bank ontdek jy genoeg stof en sand om die Sahara se oppervlakte met minstens nog tien vierkante kilometer uit te brei. Die yskas en vrieskas word ontvries. Dit is toe dat die werklike skok tref. Tussen die ysblokke lê plastiekhouers met inhoud wat waarskynlik al teen Covid-19 ingeënt is. Niemand weet meer wat daarin was nie. Sop? Bobotie? 'n Eksperiment van 2021? Alles word weggegooi. Skielik is die vrieskas leeg. Nie leeg soos "daar is nog iets om te eet" nie… leeg! Die koskaste is nie veel beter nie. Hulle is propvol niks. Twee pakkies jellie, 'n halwe pakkie mieliemeel, drie blikkies wat hul etikette verloor het en speserye wat in drie verskillende regeringsperiodes gekoop is. Vleis word gekoop. Baie vleis. Die soort vleis wat jou laat sit met 'n sakrekenaar en die vraag: "Hoe gaan ons die res van die maand oorleef?" Jy oorweeg dit om die kat se kos te begin eet. Jy wonder of water en gebed as 'n volledige maaltyd kwalifiseer. En toe… Toe daag die gaste op. En die vreemdste ding gebeur. Hulle is glad nie kieskeurig nie. Hulle is sommer net lekker mense. Daardie eerste aand sit almal om die tafel met Pilchards op roosterbrood en 'n kaassousie. Daar word gelag.Stories word vertel. Herinneringe word gedeel. Die ure vlieg verby. Teen die tyd dat hulle vertrek, voel dit of julle mekaar al jare ken. Julle is dik pelle. Al die stres oor die stof, die beddegoed, die vleis, die kos en die perfekte huis was verniet. Want die beste kuier gebeur nie om 'n tafel vol duur disse nie. Dit gebeur wanneer gemaklike mense saam lag oor Pilchards op roosterbrood; wanneer ons oop en eerlik net onsself kan wees.

LADYBRAND HIGH HOSTS SUCCESSFUL EASTERN FREE STATE RUGBY LEAGUE QUARTER-FINALS

Ladybrand High School proudly hosted the quarter-final round of the Eastern Free State High Schools Rugby League on Saturday, 30 May, at the school’s upgraded sports grounds.
The event was exceptionally well organised, with players, coaches, officials and supporters enjoying a day of quality school rugby in a welcoming and professional environment. The newly improved facilities provided an excellent setting for the important knockout fixtures. Ladybrand High School's rugby teams delivered outstanding performances throughout the day, showcasing their talent, determination and the results of many hours of dedicated preparation.
The results were as follows: LHS 1st XV defeated Vrede 1st XV 33–10, LHS U/19B defeated New Horizon Bethlehem U/19B 63–7, LHS U/16 defeated New Horizon Bethlehem U/16 43–7 and LHS u/15 lost against Harrismith 5 -19
Both the u/19 teams and the u/16 team are through to the semi-finals of the Eastern Free State league. Well done, LHS! Your hard work, commitment and passion for the game are paying off.
