Step 4: Write down two things. What is motivating you to start this business?} Money?
Freedom?
Solving a problem you see every day?
And what are the first 3 things you need to get started? Do not complicate it. Keep it simple.

I remember growing up, I used to follow my mom to the market every market day.

Preparation was important because you are going to do A LOT of negotiation. Whether you are a seller or a buyer, the negotiation never ends. It could continue for hours. When I followed her to buy products, I always ended up feeling bad for the sellers when the negotiations entered certain stages.
But the honest truth is, the sellers are aware of this and they come equally prepared with their own tactics.

Nothing beats the type of negotiation that happens in an open market.

My mother is arguably one of the best traders I have ever known, even in her primitive ways. I learned so much from her.

One shortfall I have seen in many aspiring business owners is a lack of understanding around the things that build a sustainable business. Business structure, modeling, scaling, inflation, macro-economics, policy changes, compound interest, capital preservation, interest rates, leverage, and partnerships.

As a software engineer, I learned that no code can survive on its own. Every piece of code relies on another to function.

With the rise of AI, many young people are losing their jobs or are afraid of losing them, and they are confused about what comes next. Many have turned to starting their own business, or have tried, but do not know how.

We need money to create content. But we need content to make money.

So how do you start when you have little or no money?

The Misconception

Most people think they need money for ads, production, and products before they can make money from content.

While that's true for established businesses with capital, it's not true for aspiring creators and new businesses.

You need little to no money to start. In fact, you should only spend money 𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 you have tested and confirmed your strategy.

The R𝟓𝟎𝟎 Challenge

I asked a friend one time how much he needs to start his business. He's a good mechanic.

He mentioned some large amount of money.

I told him: "Go do some homework. Write out a business you can start with R𝟓𝟎𝟎."

Still waiting.

He hasn't figured it out yet. Maybe he's still on it.

This is the misconception about starting content or a business. You don't need a large amount of money to start.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩: Treat Content Like a Business

Before anything else, know what kind of business you want to run.

You can either be:

The product (your face and profession – influencers, coaches, experts)

Offer a service (roofing, consulting, photography, repair)

Sell a product (physical or digital)

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩: Set Up a Social Media Account

This is critical, regardless of what you offer.

Everyone has social media on their phone. Don't think about a website until you have a social media presence.

Start there.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩: Your First Post is Your Guide

This is where most people get it wrong.

When your business is just starting, people will check your page to see what you offer. Are you creating content about:

Food tasting?

Politics?

Make an introductory video or write about the problem you're trying to solve. This is your NICHE.

Let people know exactly what you're doing and who you're targeting. Don't waste people's time trying to get everyone to follow you.

Once you have confirmed your niche is in demand and people are interested in your product or service, then you can proceed to establish your business.

You know your niche now. You know what content is.

But how do you actually put them together?

Let me show you.

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟏: Write down your niche on a sticky note.

Not in your head. On paper.

Example: "Homeowners in Vredenburg, Saldanha and Langebaan who need reliable roofing."

Put that sticky note where you can see it every time you create content.

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟐: Before you post anything, ask one question.

"Does this speak directly to the person on my sticky note?"

Not "is this cool?" Not "will this get likes?"

Just: does it speak to THEM?

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟑: Translate their problem into your post.

Your niche has a problem. Your content is the solution.

Example:

Problem Content Solution
Leaky roof they can't see 10-second video pointing at a cracked tile
Worried about West Coast winds Before/after photo of a roof you fixed in a storm
Don't know who to trust Client testimonial from someone in their area
See what happened there?

The photos didn't change. The roofer didn't change. The only thing that changed was the focus.

Here's what most people get wrong:

They create content first. Then try to find an audience for it.

That's backwards.

Look at your last 5 posts.
