Magae Media & Entertainment Encourages Youth to Attend NWU Open Day

KRAAIPAN -Magae Media & Entertainment is calling on young people to take a bold step toward their future by attending the North-West University (NWU) Open Day at the Mahikeng Campus on the 23rd of May 2026.

Under the theme “Let’s Make Education Fashionable,” the initiative aims to inspire learners to explore higher education opportunities and make informed career choices. The open day will give prospective students a chance to engage with university representatives, learn about available courses, and experience campus life firsthand.

&Entertainment says the trip is designed to empower students by exposing them to academic pathways that can shape their futures. Learners interested in attending are required to bring their latest school results, a certified copy of their ID, and a contribution of R200 for transport.

To make the experience more enjoyable, attendees will also receive free snacks on the day.

Parents and learners are encouraged to secure their spots by RSVPing via WhatsApp before the 20th of May.

Magae Media says the initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to community development and youth empowerment, encouraging learners to see education not just as a necessity, but as an opportunity worth pursuing.

For more information, interested participants can contact the organisers through the provided RSVP number.

Let’s shape the future together.

The Department of Basic Education has dismissed claims circulating on social media that public schools will be closed at the end of April.

In a media statement issued on 23 April 2026, the department confirmed that schools will remain open on the 28th, 29th, and 30th of April.

According to the department, these dates fall within the second school term and are not public or school holidays, meaning teaching and learning will continue as normal.

Officials have raised concern about the spread of misinformation online, warning that false reports can disrupt academic programmes and negatively impact learner attendance.

Parents, guardians, and learners are urged to rely only on official school calendars and verified government communication channels for accurate information.

The department has also called on the public to act responsibly when sharing information, emphasizing that misinformation can undermine planning within the education sector.

The Department of Basic Education says it remains committed to ensuring stability in the school calendar and minimizing disruptions to learning.

[MAHIKENG] MMNews Attends Election Training Workshop for Journalists

Magae Media News (MMNews) recently participated in a comprehensive election training workshop designed to equip journalists with critical knowledge ahead of the upcoming 2026 elections in South Africa.

The workshop focused on key issues such as misinformation and disinformation, emphasizing the importance of accurate, ethical, and responsible reporting during the electoral period. Journalists were guided on how false information can influence public perception and the role media practitioners must play in safeguarding democracy.

Participants were also taken through the 2026 electoral process, gaining insights into voting systems, election milestones, and the key institutions responsible for overseeing elections in the country. The training provided a deeper understanding of how elections are structured and managed, enabling journalists to report with clarity and confidence.

A significant part of the workshop highlighted the role of the media during elections, particularly in using data-driven reporting to inform the public. Journalists were encouraged to rely on verified data and credible sources to enhance transparency and public trust.

The training was a collaborative effort led by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) in partnership with South African National Editors’ Forum, South African Local Government Association, Media Development and Diversity Agency, Africa Check, and Moxii Africa.

MMNews remains committed to delivering accurate, credible, and impactful reporting, ensuring that communities are well-informed ahead of the 2026 elections.

KRAAIPAN -A Walk Through History .
Fun Kids Walk !

On the morning of Human Rights Day, the team from Magae Media & Entertainment gathered with excitement and purpose. As a media company that believes “with stories, we connect people,” we decided that the best way to honour the day was not only to talk about history—but to walk through it.

In collaboration with Miss-Jay Bakala, we walked together with young people to the Kraaipan Museum to learn more about our country’s journey toward freedom and equality. The walk was filled with excitement, curiosity, and meaningful conversations about the importance of knowing where we come from.

At the museum, we explored the inspiring history of Nelson Mandela, a global icon who dedicated his life to justice, dignity, and human rights for all. Through powerful displays, photographs, and storytelling, we reflected on the sacrifices that shaped the democratic South Africa we live in today.

The experience encouraged young people to ask questions, reflect on the meaning of human rights, and understand the importance of protecting these rights in our communities.

For Magae Media & Entertainment, this visit was a reminder of our mission—to tell local stories, raise awareness through entertainment, and ensure that rural stories are heard globally.

Together with Miss Jay Models, we continue to empower young people with knowledge, pride in their heritage, and a deeper understanding that history is not just something we read about—it is something we carry forward. ✨
