The awards were announced today (April 14) at WTM Africa 2026, held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, recognising organisations across Africa that are making a meaningful impact through responsible tourism.
This recognition celebrates our ongoing commitment to protecting the natural environment while creating meaningful, accessible experiences for visitors. From our viewing lift to our elevated forest boardwalks, every element of the Gorge has been designed to provide zero-impact access to this incredible ecosystem.
We’re especially proud of our role in conserving rare and endangered species – including the critically endangered Graskop cliff aloe (Aloe nubigena) – and in helping restore and protect the gorge from previous environmental degradation.
The judges' citation includes the following: “Before intervention, the gorge was a ‘tragedy of the commons’, vulnerable to illegal plant harvesting, wood collection and opportunistic poaching. Informal scramble paths caused soil erosion, siltation of the gorge stream and destruction of delicate understory micro-habitat boundaries.”
Beyond conservation, this award also recognises our commitment to community upliftment, with the majority of our team and suppliers coming from the local Graskop area.
Thank you to our passionate team, partners and every visitor who supports responsible tourism. Together, we’re proving that tourism can be a force for good.
