At Interactive Direct we are fortunate to interact with sales and marketing people on an ongoing basis and this has been so for more than a decade.

In the 1980’s and 90’s, clients would ask us to do email campaigns on their behalf, we would select the desired target market from our database of SA decision makers, prep the email and press send. At the same time, the client would rally the sales team and inform them to expect calls and the calls would come in.

Jump forward to 2016, suddenly email sales slowdown with the growing popularity of a mix of newer, sexier and less expensive social media options. HOWEVER, as more people find out each day, the mass social media options are fantastic as a branding tool, but email is still able to deliver a personal message onto the recipients PC, Smartphone, Tablet and more with an informative message, call to action and branding as a bundle. Still the “best bang for your buck.”

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that an advertiser should stop the alternative social media options, just that they should include email into their marketing mix.

Once a client is on the company database after a cold campaign, there should be ongoing “warm” communication with the clients on the database as the old adage of “a bird in the hand…” hold true and the cost of sales to existing clients is significantly less than finding new clients.
