🚨 MINERS TRAPPED UNDERGROUND AT EKAPA MINE
Five miners are reported to be trapped underground after a mudslide struck the Ekapa Mine in Kimberley early on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
According to local media and official reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning when a rush of mud and debris collapsed part of an underground tunnel at the Ekapa Mining Joint Shaft. Emergency rescue teams have been deployed and a search and rescue operation is underway, with efforts focused on locating the missing workers deep below the surface.
At this stage, officials have not confirmed the condition of the trapped miners or communicated directly with them. Families of those affected have been informed, and support measures are being offered as the rescue operation continues.
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has also called for access to the site and clarity on the situation.

🚨 Stolen Toyota Hilux Recovered on N4, Suspect Arrested

Members of the White River Flying Squad have successfully recovered a suspected stolen vehicle and arrested a 26-year-old foreign national.

The incident took place on Monday, 16 February 2026, at around 15:00 along the N4 near Alkmaar, outside Nelspruit.

Police had earlier received information about a Toyota Hilux that was reported stolen in Kameldrift, Gauteng, on the same day. Acting on the tip-off, officers conducted patrols along the N4 and identified a vehicle matching the description travelling towards Nelspruit.

The vehicle was stopped and, after verification, was positively identified as the stolen Toyota Hilux.

An adult male suspect, a Mozambican national aged 26, was arrested and charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. He was detained and is expected to appear before the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.

Police investigations continue.
