💪🌸 On 9 August 1956, more than 20,000 South African women of all races marched to the Union Buildings to protest against the pass laws, legislation that restricted freedom of movement and dignity.
Led by Lillian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Rahima Moosa, and Sophia Williams, they delivered 14,000 petitions to the Prime Minister’s office, stood in silence for 30 minutes, and sang the words that have echoed through history:
✨ “Wathint’ Abafazi, Wathint’ imbokodo” You strike a woman, you strike a rock. ✨
These women didn’t just march,they shook the ground beneath them and left a legacy of courage, unity, and resistance.
