Frank Friday: Give Credit Where It’s Due (Before You Take It for Yourself)

Friday! The day we pretend we’re still working while actually daydreaming about that first sip of something cold. But before we clock out (mentally, if not officially), let’s have a little chat about something that grinds my gears: people who take credit for things they didn’t actually do.

We all know them. Maybe you work for them (condolences). Maybe you’ve had a client like this. Maybe you’ve been on the receiving end of an “I couldn’t have done it without my team” speech while knowing full well that the only thing that person contributed was oxygen.

The Classic Credit Thieves:
1️⃣ The CEO Who Thinks They Wrote the Social Media Post
You pour your heart into crafting the perfect post—clever, engaging, on-brand. Then the boss hits “post” and suddenly it’s “Their thoughts. Their vision.” Ma’am, sir, you couldn’t log into your own Instagram if your life depended on it.
2️⃣ The Client Who “Had the Idea First”
You present a brilliant strategy. They reject it. Three weeks later, they come back with “their own” version… which is just your pitch with the logo moved slightly to the left. Wow, such innovation!
3️⃣ The Influencer Who Credits The Universe Instead of The Small Business That Sent Them Freebies
“Wow, the universe is truly aligning things for me!” No babes, Thandi from The Soap Shack sent you that hamper. Say her name.
4️⃣ That One Manager Who Presents Your Work Like They Birthed It
Nothing like sitting in a meeting while your manager dramatically unveils the strategy YOU wrote—as if they just discovered electricity. “It just came to me in a dream!” No, Susan, it came to you in a Google Doc that I shared with you last week.

Give Credit, Not Excuses
Here’s the thing—giving credit doesn’t cost a cent. Tag the small business. Shout out the employee who put in the work. Acknowledge the intern who actually ran the entire campaign. It’s not that deep, and it makes people feel appreciated.
So today, let’s set the record straight. Tag someone who deserves some credit but probably hasn’t gotten it. A hardworking freelancer. A small business hustling in the background. A delivery guy who brought your food through a monsoon.
And if you’re that person who’s been doing all the work while someone else gets the praise? Send them this post. With a little wink.

Happy Friday, folks. May your drinks be cold, your WiFi be strong, and your credit be properly attributed.

Why a Website is No Longer Optional – It’s Your Business’s Survival Kit!

If You’re Not Online, Do You Even Exist?

Let’s be real – in 2025, running a business without a website is like opening a shop and refusing to put up a sign. Worse, it’s like setting up a store in the middle of the Karoo and hoping someone with a working GPS stumbles upon it. You wouldn’t do that, right? Then why let your business suffer invisibility in the digital world?

Here’s the thing: people Google EVERYTHING. Need a plumber? Google. Looking for a lekker braai spot? Google. Want to buy something? Google. And if you’re not on Google, you’re handing your customers over to your competitors on a silver platter. Stop that.

Social Media Alone Won’t Save You
We hear it all the time: “But I have Facebook and Instagram!” Listen, relying solely on social media is like building a shack in someone else’s backyard. Facebook changes its algorithm, and suddenly, your posts reach three people (your mom, your gogo and your cat). Instagram decides to push videos instead of posts, and now your content is buried under 10,000 Tik Tok knockoffs.

With a website, you’re the boss. Your space, your rules, and best of all – Google actually recognizes you.

What’s the First Thing Big Brands Do? Get a Website.
Look at Coca-Cola and KFC. They know the secret sauce: Websites give them control, credibility, and a one-stop shop where customers find exactly what they need. Even with the best marketing campaigns, they STILL have a website because they understand the power of owning their digital presence.

If billion-rand brands see the value, why are you still hesitating?

Websites Work While You Sleep
A website doesn’t need lunch breaks. It doesn’t get tired. It doesn’t hit ‘snooze’ on Monday mornings. It works 24/7, showcasing your services, selling your products, and answering customer queries while you’re out living your best life. No DMs, no inbox floods – just business rolling in.

It’s NOT Expensive – You’re Just Overthinking It
Think websites cost a fortune? Think again. For just R249 per month, you can have a professional logo, an attractive webpage, and reliable hosting. That’s less than your monthly coffee budget!

Imagine your customers Googling your business and actually finding you. No more lost sales, no more missed opportunities.

🚨 SPECIAL OFFER ALERT! 🚨
For only R249 PM, we’ll set you up with: ✅ A professional logo ✅ A webpage that actually converts ✅ Hosting so your website never sleeps

The Hard Truth About Marketing: No One Cares (Until You Make Them)
Let’s be brutally honest for a second. You know that brand-new product/service/idea you’ve poured your heart and soul into? Yeah… no one cares.

Harsh? Maybe. True? Absolutely.

People don’t wake up thinking, “Gee, I wonder what that small business is up to today.” They’re too busy trying to survive load shedding, avoid traffic fines, and figure out why avos cost more than petrol.

So how do you make them care?
🔥 You make them FEEL something.
🔥 You tell a story they can’t ignore.
🔥 You show them why they NEED you, not just what you do.

Look at Nando's —they sell chicken, but they’ve made themselves the kings of spicy clapbacks and social commentary. Checkers made shopping cool with their Checkers Sixty60 app. And Yoco took the hassle out of getting paid—fast, smooth, done.

If your marketing isn’t making people talk, laugh, or think, you’re just another brand lost in the noise.

👉 So what’s your brand actually saying?
👉 Why should people care?
👉 How do you make them stop scrolling?

Frank Friday Challenge:
Tell us in ONE SENTENCE why your business exists (without using the words “quality service” or “passion”).
Drop it in the comments. We care!
