As I lay here at 1am I think deep as to how to voice out this ocean of words that rage within me. How do I sugarcoat or soften what I'm about to say but the reality really is: PERPETRATORS DO NOT MEET US WITH IN MIND... so why should we?
The gruesome murders are anything but sugarcoated and soft. Those women were not met with kindness so my words aren't going to be kind.
I have a mother, aunties, cousins, nieces, friends who have become my sisters. I might not have a large following but if it saves one woman from falling prey or victim then these tips are worth it.
I AM MY SISTER'S KEEPER
I've met a profound human who brought along with him a profound saying, a profound self-motto and I think of how important and relevant it is for such a time.
"DEPEND ON NOBODY BUT YOURSELF"
In those last moments that those women faced they literally had to just do exactly that. Depend on themselves and unfortunately because these brutal attacks inflicted on to them were premeditated and planned by scum who has had repeated experience... their lives were taken.
I doubt the women ever expected to be met with such vile and evil killers ever in their life time. Which is why we now need to be aware of such horrific realities that could unfold at any given time. Let their deaths not be go in vain, names not forgotten and circumstances not hushed.
AND I WILL NEVER TOLERATE HEARING "SHE SHOULDN'T HAVE.... "
I think of us ladies how we take pride in ourselves. Our dressing, our hair, some women take hours to perfect a certain look by applying make up, some even follow skin routines religiously. And then to be found naked, bruised, battered, stabbed, beat and tied up.
It creates in me an anger. An anger aimed at the creature that didn't think twice if any of these ladies had children or vulnerable family dependent on them returning home.
It takes a very twisted, warped, sadistic creature to do these things. I use the term "creature" because not all men destroy. There a few that heal and protect. Unfortunately the thing that's behind these killings isn't fit to be called a man because real men do not do what was done to innocent women.
It's now 11.44am I've just heard another woman had been found. Making it 9 ladies in Kempton Park brutally killed. I am repulsed by hearing this.
Here's some tips because really when encountering life altering moments all we can do is DEPEND ON OURSELVES for survival.
1. Tear Gas/Pepper Spray - Aim for eyes, nose, mouth, throat. (PREFERABLY SQ**RT AND NOT SPRAY. Run
2. Retractable Baton - Keep on body for quick and easy access. A blow to the hand wrist and then neck, throat, wind pipe. Run
3. Gas Gun/Airsoft Pistol - Aim for eyes, head.
4. Tazor - Neck. Any visible body part of exposed skin. Run
5. Switchblade - Hands, Biceps, Legs. Run
6. Deodorant & Lighter - Light & Spray aim for face. Run
7. Vinger laced with chillie powder - Old school but not many can afford above mentioned and goal is to buy time. Aim for eyes, mouth, throat. Run
8. Alarm Siren - Keep accessible on body. Create a commotion. Run
9. Body as a tool of defense - If pinned down, use hands and nails to cause severe injuries to face and eyes. Kick with repeated force any body part till able to kick and push him off of you aiming most impact to the groin area. If attacked from the back use elbows with force to the ribs, kick knees, dig nails to loosen the grip on you. Run
10. Handbag - Remember goal is to keep a distance between you and attacker. Keep phone on you at all times. Throw bag or contains at all directions. A distraction is better than loss of life. Run
11. WhatsApp Bundle - Homes have wifi, Airtime isn't always lasting and data might run out. A WhatsApp bundle ensures that in panic you have quick access to voice note someone or a community group immediately of what's taking place. Include name, area and ask for assistance. Run.
These above tips might seem extreme but when faced with life and death situations our goal is survival. In that moment we cannot depend on nobody but ourselves. Save these tips on your phone.
BRING THE LION OUT!
HOPE THIS SAVES SOMEONE IN SOMEWAY.
