🔴3 of the quickest ways to grow your SaaS business🔴

The SaaS industry is growing at 25.89% per year. That means that if you’re a SaaS business, you have plenty of competition.

So how can you grow faster than your competitors?

First up, as a SaaS, your focus has to be on:

👉Acquiring customers: getting new leads/customers in the door
👉Retaining customers: getting customers to renew subscriptions
👉ARPU: Maximizing your average revenue per user (ARPU)

But when you need fast growth, you need ways to acquire new business (but be sure to retain customers and work on ways of increasing ARPU).

Here are the quickest methods for growing:

▶Partner with others.

The fastest way to build awareness and grow is to partner with other companies who are more established than your business. Both you and them must benefit from the partnership, and one of the best ways of setting up a partnership is by taking a cross-departmental approach (teams from both businesses work together, for example, customer support, events & marketing and sales development).

▶Paid advertising.

Paid digital marketing platforms are a good place to start. Use Google AdWords, Facebook Ads, and LinkedIn Ads. Word of warning though: don’t attempt to set up the ads yourself as you will probably lose a lot of money and not have much impact (unless you are a marketer of course). Get an experienced person to do it for you.

▶Direct sales.

You can use a combination of channels, or even just LinkedIn, but done properly (check my post tomorrow to learn about how Convertkit hit $1.5k MRR and then stalled and what Nathan Barry, Founder of Converkit did to get to $100K MRR in 12 months.)

Finally, one key factor to optimise marketing initiatives is to first understand your target audience, so that your initiatives will be as impactful as possible. Your attention must be on providing solutions to their greatest pain points.

The narrower your niche, the more effective your marketing.

70% of all customers prefer being able to quickly find what they are looking for on a company’s website, instead of having to find out by email or phone.

People want to know NOW, not later.

Solution?

Put yourself in your customer’s shoes and answer every possible question that could be raised.

Additionally, add a Live Chat function that operates 24 hours a day if necessary. Don’t know what questions they ask? Find out with surveys or forums. It’s that critical.

Make it easy for them to find solutions from you.

I can promise you, that if you have people wanting answers at midnight and they can’t get them from you, but they can from your competition, you will lose them to your competitor.

80% of companies believe they’re leaders in customer experience, but the truth is that according to their customers, only one in five is delivering an experience that meets their expectations (but does not exceed their expectations.

Also, it’s not that companies don’t want to move forward with CX strategy, it’s that they don’t know how to.

Very often though, because they believe themselves to be delivering exceptional service experiences, they resist learning that they actually don’t.

What’s to be done?

Start with the basics…start with your greatest customer touchpoints, which is probably your support function. Run customer feedback programs and use the feedback to make improvements.

According to a survey, the top CX challenge is developing a Customer Experience culture and a customer-first mindset.

Why?

Well, firstly, research proves that although most companies believe they provide exceptional service, their customers disagree significantly. In fact, only 1% of customers say that companies exceed their service expectations.

The worst customer experiences come from government services, followed closely by the telecommunications industry.

The reason for this is simple: telecommunications companies are run by technical people and technical people (God bless them; I love them!) are not service-oriented characters. In essence, they simply do not understand what constitutes exceptional service experiences.

Solution:

I suggest they employ someone that can drive a customer-first company culture, but someone that reports to the top dog, and who can influence the top dog.

Because…the service a company provides stems straight from the top and filters down through the ranks.

Big Small Mistakes Tech Companies Make with Customer Satisfaction Surveys:

❌They make the customer pay the SMS charge to submit their feedback.

❌They ask for a customer satisfaction rate on the engineer, but the customer could have had an issue with something else, almost always an aspect in the overall process, and as such, the company will never learn of it.

❌The survey is too long, or requires unnecessary customer information - this reduces the response rate.

❌They provide no incentive for feedback.

❌They don't use customer feedback to make improvements.

❌They don't word their request for feedback clearly and the user is often confused, which also drops the response rate.

What The Best SaaS Partner Programs Have In Common:

👉Offer co-marketing support for partners.

👉Focus on customer needs.

👉Offer a partner portal to manage partner relationships.

👉Most partner programs are free to join.

👉Most pay partners for referrals, but this is usually only offered to higher-tier partners. Smaller partner programs don’t usually pay.

👉Most provide some form of sales training, although only half provide hands-on sales support.

Top 5 SaaS Marketing Mistakes [& Solutions]:

1️⃣ Not understanding your target audience intimately. You can’t effectively promote your service to an audience if you don’t understand them.

Solution:

👉Get customer feedback (use surveys, forums, even just a telephone call) to find out what you do right and where you can improve.
👉Research your ideal target persona - what are their pain points, why do they search for solutions such as yours, what gets their attention?
👉Build the service experience based on what’s important to your customers, not what’s important to you.

2️⃣ No defined KPIs. KPIs are needed as a metric to determine the health of your business.

Solution:

These are some of the KPIs that are crucial for SaaS:

👉Net Profit
👉Customer Acquisition Cost
👉Customer Lifetime Value
👉Montly Recurring Revenue
👉Net Promoter Score

3️⃣ No video demonstration to explain the platform. People are so inundated with information that most look for a quick video to explain the product.

Solution:

👉Build trust and credibility by explaining in a video how the product acts as a solution to their greatest pain points.

4️⃣ Using all channels at once. It’s a mistake to want to add your presence on all marketing channels at once.

Solution:

👉Choose the channels where most of your audience hangs out and focus on those. Once they’re built up, start including others, but avoid chewing off more than you can bite and then not giving each channel your best attention.

5️⃣ Not analysing campaigns. If you neglect to analyse marketing campaigns, you are missing out on opportunities for growth and improvement.

Solution:

👉Analyse results, what went wrong, what went right and create a “lessons learned” folder that the org can access.

How can your B2B tech business use current customer success stories to acquire more customers? One way is to showcase your customer successes:

💯 Get and include testimonials in your marketing material.

💯 Create detailed case studies and clearly explain how your solution has helped customers.

💯 Add logos of companies that you’ve helped or partnered with to your website homepage.

💯 Showcase social proof wherever possible. (Social proof is a psychological and social phenomenon where people copy the actions of others; it is trust building and online, trust is EVERYTHING.)

💯 Ask for reviews. Most people check for reviews before making a purchase.
