When I was young, after my schooling, I started working at Otis Lifts, they became Schindler's Lifts later. I stayed at a hostel in Jeppestown with a few ladies who became prominent in the government sector. I got engaged and married a man by the name of Daniel, he was a Coal Merchant, he said to me: “you should leave work and come and help me at the office,” which I did. We received our stock from all over the Country where we could get Coal. Coal, wood, paraffin, candles and primus stoves were the items we were selling at the time. I always tried to recruit women to make a difference in their lives, so that they could generate their own income, but we were not very successful. At times we heard of money making schemes, which said that if you paid a certain amount of money you will get so much more in return, but these schemes were not successful. Then we started making clothing and sell it, but this still didn’t make enough money, I had to help my siblings financially as I was the bread winner at home. Now that I was married, I always helped when they called for help. But I couldn’t help them too much. One day my husband & I received a call inviting all business owners to come to Newcastle to help develop a place called Osizweni with their businesses. The people living there lived in shanties, there was no location, no houses. We went & we became General Dealers in Osizweni, there we rented a shop and started our business, we sold wood and coal and groceries. Wherever we went, I tried very hard to help people, I never wanted to go forward by myself. My motto has always been: “to always succeed with a group of people following me,” that is still my goal today. After my husband died, I came to live with my daughter and her family. On the day that I joined I had invited a whole lot of my family and friends to come and look at the presentation at my daughters house, I simply asked them, “are you open to making an extra income,” These questions led to many more questions, many said yes so I invited them to look at the intro video with me & 5 people joined in my first month. I therefore received a bonus cheque of R1000.00 that month on top of the other money that I earned. Many came to the Super Saturday function at Duepoint & they where happy to meet everyone there, they were very impressed with the business.
