Candle in the wind 🍃
Tribute to Olusola Ayotunde Solarin

Boss as you are called 🤠

Indeed the wind denied your flame 🔥

The presage of the frailty of your flame was the wind🌬️

Soon it is out!

Eventful, selfless are your days 🗓️

Lived for impact
Imperfect but indelible footprint
👣

Time knows you came 🕰️
Even foes can attest your benevolence

Even the unavoidable death can not stop you from standing tall into the afterlife ⚰️

You are strong💪
You can not be 'was'
You live
You place your life in many 🇿🇦🇺🇸🇳🇬🇬🇧🇸🇹🇸🇿🇸🇳

You are seen Olusola
Everyday you are seen
You are unobliterable

In Doris we see you
In Esther we see you
In Anita we see you
In Princess we see you
In Isaac we see you
In many we see you

Though forcefully translated
Foes still can not rejoice.

Celebrations Today, May 25th, crowned as Africa Day, recite the annual commemorations of Africa’s independence, freedom and liberation strife from colonial imperialists. The reinforcement of this liberation was the first union of African countries on African soil; the foundation of the regional integration body; the Organisation of the African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963, which 38 years later, evolved into the African Union (AU). Today, the continental organisation celebrates 54 years of determined efforts for unity among the African people, and socioeconomic freedom from foreign dominion and exploitation.

Adieu Mama Winnie

There has been outpouring of encomium and farewell messages from the supporters and lovers of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, after her death at the Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg on 2nd of April 2018 as a result of a long term illness.
She was a South African anti-apartheid activist and politician, and the ex-wife of Nelson Mandela. She served as a Member of Parliament from 1994 to 2003, and from 2009 until her death, and was a deputy minister from 1994 to 1996. A member of the African National Congress (ANC) , she served on the ANC’s National Executive Committee and headed its Women's League. Madikizela-Mandela was known to her supporters as the "Mother of the Nation".
Born to a Xhosa family in Bizana, and a qualified social worker, Madikizela-Mandela married anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg in 1958; they remained married for 38 years and had two children together. In 1963, after Mandela was imprisoned following the Rivonia Trial; she became his public face during the 27 years he spent in jail. During that period, she rose to prominence within the domestic anti-apartheid movement. She was detained by apartheid state security services on various occasions, subjected to banning orders, banished to a rural town, and spent several months in solitary confinement.
Fondly called Mama Winnie, she will be missed for her roles in the defence of Women and children’s rights.

HUMAN RIGHT DAY SA: RESONANCE OF AFRICAN PRIDE

The history of Human Right in South Africa was shaped by the 21st March, 1960 tragedy that left 69 people dead and 180 people injured, when police wilfully opened fire on unarmed protesters outside Sharpeville Station over the Pass Law which imposed that every Black Africans must carry a Pass book to be produced on request by any law enforcement officer. This day that has been declared a public holiday since 1994, when President Nelson Mandela took power from the Apartheid regime that reigned in South Africa, has been marked with reflections on how the country is fairing with regards to Human Right.
Afroflections Media celebrates these African heroes that gave their life for the freedom that millions of Black Africans now enjoys in the beautiful land of South Africa. The freedom of today was yesterdays’ sacrifices of our heroes.
Today, the South African constitution protects individual rights, like the right to move freely without a pass book, with its inclusion of the Bill of Rights which only a supermajority of Parliament can influence any changes to, and citizens are entitled to basic human dignity and more in the country’s current democracy.
The rainbow nation glows like never before. Happy Human Right Day South Africa!
