What's new?
A new, major update of BenguFarm was released on 19 August. This update of BenguFarm marks the move to the use of a new database system that BenguFarm uses in the background. BenguFarm previously linked to JET 4.0 databases (MS Access). While MS Access databases are fast, it has certain limitations. BenguFarm now use the MS SQL database. MS SQL is an industry leading database that is much more robust, offers higher capacity and better networking performance. It also opens further optimisation options in future BenguFarm versions.

Did you know?
When the cow/ewe and calving/lambing date are selected on the Calving/Lambing screen and if a mating(s) was recorded for the applicable cow/ewe that could cause a calving/lambing on the calving/lambing date (according to the minimum and maximum pregnancy period as set up at Settings > Herds > Matings, Pregnancy and Calving/Lambing), the most probable bull's/ram's number (based on the expected calving/lambing date from the mating record) will automatically be displayed as the sire of the calf/lamb.
If there are two matings (e.g. AI/Lapa and natural) listed as possible matings, the sire is uncertain because the calving/lambing date falls within the minimum and maximum pregnancy period for more than one mating. BenguFarm will consequently display New Mating at Sire (Mating). If the list of matings is opened, existing matings for the cow/ewe will be displayed. Select New Mating. At Mating Details (blue part of the calving/lambing screen), select ?MULTISIRE? in the Sire field and select the relevant possible sires at Additional Sires. This is the correct recording of the calving/lambing and it will also help you to remember to have the correct sire confirmed with DNA.

Om vining en maklik te kontroleer watter diere in jou kudde se ouers is geverifieer met DNA ontleding, gaan in BenguFarm na Verslae > My Verslae > Dierdata. Kliek op Verslag Kolomme (Uitleg) en kies in die Algemeen afdeling die velde Vader DNA Geverifieerd en Moeder DNA Geverifieerd. Kliek op Kies Diere (Kriteria) en kies die diere wat jy wil insluit in die verslag. Kliek dan op op Besigtig Verslag.

Did you know?
BenguFarm can integrate with any electronic ID number (EID) tag reader with data capture capability on the reader itself and from which it can be exported in CSV format. EID readers, such as the Tru-Test XRS2i stick reader (and others), allow for limited data capturing on the reader itself, from which it can then be exported in CSV format using the Tru-Test Data Link app. BenguFarm also provides for importing data directly from such EID readers into BenguFarm. Another option (that we recommend) is to pair the EID reader with the BenguFarm Mobile app, do the recording on the app and synchonise it afterwards from the Mobile app to BenguFarm on the PC/laptop.

Bek-en-Klouseer (BKS) Inentings:
* Om 'n BKS entstof op te stel, gaan na Opstellings > Enstowwe, ... Kliek op die "+" en vul die besonderhede in, Stoor. Sien voorbeeld hieronder.
* Om BKS inentings aan te teken, gaan na Gesondheid > Inentings, Doserings, Dip en Aanvullings. Gebruik die Hulp funksie indien nodig. Sien voorbeeld hieronder.
* Om die BKS inentingsdata van ’n dier op die hoofskerm op te kyk, gaan op die Dier Uitleg gaan na die Inentings, Doserings en Siekte Toetse opkykskerm. Om dit op die Kudde Uitleg te vertoon, gaan op die hoofskerm se Kudde Uitleg na Vertoon Opsies > kliek op die Stel My Kolomme Op om te Vertoon Op (ikoon heel bo). Gebruik die Hulp funksie indien nodig.
* Om ’n verslag te skep van BKS inentings gedoen, gaan na Verslae > Gesondheid > Inentings, Doserings, Dip en Aanvullings.

Did you know?
On the BenguFarm MOBILE app you can take photos of your animals and link existing photos to an animal. Photos are also synchronized to BenguFarm DESKTOP during synchronisation with the “EXPORT New Data to DESKTOP” option selected.
TO TAKE PHOTOS, go to the Home screen and select Take Photo. The photo screen will open. Select the animal for which you want to take a photo from the list and then tap on the camera icon to take a photo for the selected animal. The device’s photo app will open. Use the photo app as you would normally do to take a photo of the animal. Depending on the device and the camera app, you will be presented with an option to accept the photo or not. If accepted, control will be passed back to BenguFarm MOBILE and the photo linked to the selected animal. A default name will be assigned to the photo. You may change the photo’s name and tap the Save icon to save the new name. Tap on the Cancel icon if you do not want to link the photo to the selected animal. To take another photo, simply repeat the process.
TO LINK EXISTING PHOTOS of an animal on the phone/tablet to an animal's record, go to the Mobile app's home screen, select Take Photo, select the relevant animal, tap on the "+" icon, select the relevant photo, change the default photo name if needed and tap the “Save” icon to save the photo to the animal's record.
TO SHARE A PHOTO of an animal with someone, select Take Photo on the home screen of the Mobile app, select the animal in question, select the photo in question, tap on the Share icon and select which app (e.g. WhatsApp) the photo should be sent with.

Het jy geweet?
In BenguFarm is 'n verslag om vinnig en maklik diere wat swak presteer volgens self-gekose reproduksie-, produksie-, retensie- en teelwaardes minimum standaarde te identifiseer, Gaan na Verslae > Inspeksies en Seleksies > Teelkuddeseleksie. Waardes wat nie voldoen aan die minimum kriteria nie, word in die verslag in vet gedruk en omraam. Die kriteria kan ook gestoor word vir toekomstige gebruik. Let op dat retensie- en teelwaardes slegs beskikbaar is vir geregistreerde diere.

Het jy geweet?
In BenguFarm kan die inteelpersentasies van die nageslag van beplande parings bereken word op grond van die beskikbare stamboom data.
Gaan na Reproduksie > Inteel Berekening vir Beplande Parings. Gebruik die Hulp funksie indien nodig.
Vir kommersiële telers wat gebruik maak van multibulparings is 'n opsie "Bereken inteling vir vroulike diere gebore uit multibulparings vir moontlike vaars" beskikbaar - sien links bo. Aktiveer hierdie opsie as jy die inteling in die nageslag wil bereken vir die geselekteerde vroulike diere wat uit 'n multibulparings gebore is, dit wil sê waar die vader MULTISIRE is en die onderskeie bulle gespesifiseer is.
