Botswana citizen Lesedi Molapisi has been released from prison in Bangladesh, where she had been held after being sentenced to death.

Molapisi was arrested in Dhaka on 23 January 2022 after being found in possession of narcotics. She was convicted of drug smuggling and sentenced to death on 27 May 2024.

According to a press release from the Office of the President, her release follows sustained efforts by the Botswana government to secure her freedom. President Duma Boko appealed for executive clemency and a commutation of her sentence.

MOJADIGO DENIES RELATIONSHIP WITH VICTIM

A pastor convicted of r**e, Goitsekgosi Mojadigo of Divine Anointing International Church, has denied ever having sexual in*******se or a romantic relationship with the victim.

Mojadigo, 37, denied the allegations while giving evidence in a three-count defilement case before Chief Magistrate Ms Queen Moanga-Leburu at the Mochudi Magistrate Court on Monday.

He faces three counts of defilement alleged to have occurred between January 1, 2024 and May 5, 2024.

Mojadigo denied sleeping with the victim and refuted suggestions that she was his girlfriend, stating she was only an usher in the church.

On the first incident, alleged to have taken place at a lodge in Donga, Francistown, he told the court that on the day the victim alleges they had sexual in*******se, he was conducting individual counseling sessions for more than 30 congregants.

He also disputed sleeping with the victim and another female church member on the same bed at his house in Morwa, saying both the victim and the other church member were sleeping in the spare room. He denied having sexual in*******se with the victim in the presence of another person.

However, State Attorney Ms Seeletso Ookeditse told the court that three separate state witnesses testified that they had heard Mojadigo say he intended to marry the victim, while another witness said he was summoned by Mojadigo and warned to stay away from her.

Ms Ookeditse said in all those testimonies Mojadigo never disputed the statements in court.

In response, the accused said he did not recall saying he intended to marry the victim, adding that if he did, it would have been in jest as he was naturally playful.

Mojadigo is represented by Mr Olehile Machwe, while the state is represented by Ms Ookeditse and Ms Bezi Seralanyana.

The defence case continues on August 28.
