Some interesting stats from the Gauteng Film Commission's newsletter:
Industry Facts
Despite all the challenges during the COVID-19 lockdown, some parts of the industry slowly opened. The Commercial Producers Association (CPA) in collaboration with the South African Screen Federation (SASFED) developed the Health Protocol document, processes and a structure to assist the industry resume operations and still maintain the lockdown regulations as prescribed by the SA government.
Although during April there was basically no productions happening, for the period April to June, the GFC facilitated 57 production permits, job creation was estimated at 1 543 and the Estimated Production Value was R74 107 424. As more productions resumed, for the period July to 15 September, we facilitated 75 Permits, jobs created is sitting on 2 937 and the Estimated Production Value is R 59 149 000.
We would like to thank CPA and SASFED for bringing in leadership under uncertain times, not forgetting our Front-line workers, Metropolitan Police Departments JMPD, EMPD, TMPD, SAPS, City Parks, Sedibeng and West Rand District municipalities who were on the ground to make sure that they assist our film makers to film in respective locations.
