Last night, we stood on a national stage and were reminded why we started.

SA Books Online has been awarded 1st Place in the Creative IP of Excellence category at the CIPC Youth Awards 2026 and for a small business with a big vision, this moment means everything.

What started as an idea to preserve, promote, and platform South African voices has grown into a living, breathing community of storytellers, readers, and cultural custodians. This award is not just a win for us, it is a win for every author who trusted us with their work; every reader who believes in local stories, and every dream that refused to be limited by resources.

Building something from the ground up is not easy. It comes with uncertainty, sacrifice, and countless unseen hours. But moments like this remind us that the work matters. That our stories matter. That we matter.

We are deeply grateful for the recognition, and even more committed to continuing the journey by amplifying voices, celebrating literature, and shaping the future of South African storytelling.

Thank you for believing in us. This is only the beginning. 📚

What an incredible afternoon of shifting the narrative!

Yesterday, SA Books Online hosted our hybrid dialogue: "What It Really Means To Publish African" at the UJ Nadine Gordimer Auditorium. The energy from both our in-person guests and our virtual audience was absolutely unmatched!
From kicking off the afternoon with a feature on Channel Africa, the stage was set for a truly powerful conversation.

A massive thank you to our incredible speakers:
Wikus Van Zyl for pulling back the curtain on the journey and vision of UJ Press.
Dr. JJ Klaas for beaming in from the Eastern Cape to drop profound historical gems about his book, Triangle of One Hundred Years Wars.

Thank you to the attendees who showed up, engaged with the UJ Press book exhibition, and asked the pertinent questions about how we own and shape African scholarship.
This is just the beginning of The Afrocentric Agenda. 🌍📚

For centuries, African history has been told through the lens of the coloniser. It is time for the lion to speak.

This powerful truth is the driving force behind our upcoming SABO event series: The Afrocentric Agenda. Join us as we explore "What it really means to Publish African" by looking at the incredible journey of UJ Press.

We are honoured to host Wikus Van Zyl, UJ Press Director and in a deep-dive conversation with Dr. JJ Klaas, author of the groundbreaking book, Triangle of One Hundred Years Wars.

Dr. Klaas’s work is the lion's roar. It challenges distorted colonial narratives by offering a riveting South African historiography told entirely through an endogenous, native lens. Chronicling the protracted wars of resistance fought by the amaXhosa in the Eastern Cape, the book honours their visionary leadership, corrects historical fallacies, and reclaims the truth of those who fought to defend their land.

When we publish African, we don't just print books; we take back the pen and shift the narrative.

At SA Books Online, we believe that building sustainable platforms for South African literature requires both vision and disciplined leadership.

We are proud to share that our Founder and Managing Director has successfully completed an executive programme at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), sponsored by Standard Bank, after being selected among the Top 50 from over 400 applicant companies. The programme concluded with SA Books Online achieving a third-place ranking in the cohort, a meaningful milestone in our growth journey.

This achievement strengthens our capacity to serve authors, publishers, and readers across South Africa, as we continue to invest in skills, systems, and partnerships that support local storytelling, knowledge creation, and digital access to books.

As we scale SA Books Online, our commitment remains unchanged: to expand the reach of South African literature and build infrastructure that allows local stories to thrive in the digital economy.

Today, on Heritage Day, we celebrate the roots that ground us. Our traditions, practices, and cultures that carry the wisdom of generations. Heritage is not only found in rituals and customs, but also in the languages that give them life. Each word, proverb, and story is a vessel of memory, keeping alive the essence of who we are.
Literature plays a vital role in preserving these voices, ensuring that the stories of our past continue to inspire the present and guide the future. By reading, writing, and sharing in our own languages, we honour the richness of our heritage and safeguard it for generations to come.
Let us continue to celebrate, preserve, and pass on the stories that make us who we are. Happy Heritage Day Mzansi! 🇿🇦
