That R20 saving isn’t always a saving.

When getting to the special costs you money, time and effort, is it still worth the trip?

Our latest Insight Drop reveals that shoppers are pricing the *whole journey*, not just the shelf. In fact, 38% wait for a special before doing their main shop.

For brands and retailers, the takeaway is clear: understanding the shopper means looking beyond the price tag.

A R20 saving sounds great… until you factor in the trip to collect it.

Shoppers aren’t just comparing prices on the shelf. They’re weighing up the cost of getting there, too.

Our latest Insight Drop reveals that 38% wait for a special before doing their main shop.

Because a good deal is about more than the price. It’s about the whole journey.

What makes a special worth the trip for you?

You know what they say....everyone’s good at something.

But is being able to sleep all day a talent? Do dad jokes count? And why are we suddenly showing off our flexibility at work?

We put the Network X team on the spot to share their most useless talents, and prove them.

The results speak for themselves.

The neighbourhood shop is making a big move...

Traditional trade grew 14.8% in value, compared with 5.1% for modern trade.

That’s more than a stat, it's a sign that the way people shop is changing.

Are businesses paying attention?

The kasi economy is bigger than you think.

Spazas, taverns, kasi food, taxis and stokvels all play a part in an economy estimated at R1 trillion every year.

So, let’s stop calling it “informal” and start recognising the scale of the opportunity.

For brands looking to connect with South African consumers, the streets are more than just a place to pass through, they’re where business happens.

“Trust me, I know a shortcut.” Famous last words.

We asked the team who has the most confidence in their directions, even when they're completely lost. The verdict? Let's just say there's a clear favourite.

Let’s retire the stereotype.

The township consumer isn’t defined by an informal dwelling or a low-income label. In fact, 84% of township households live in formal homes, with only 12% in informal dwellings.

And the change is visible on the ground: home extensions, better appliances, décor, lifestyle upgrades and a growing appetite for more.

Townships are modernising, not westernising. Understanding that is pivotal.

Because the opportunity for brands isn’t to “sell down” to the township.

It’s to understand the consumer who lives there, and meet them where life, culture and commerce actually happen.

The township is moving, your media should too.

We may work together, we may get along...but that doesn’t mean we agree.

This week’s Meet the Team is all about the opinions our team would defend even if the whole office disagreed.

WFH is more productive.
Most meetings should’ve been an email.
And tequila is just tequila. 🌵

Which opinion would YOU defend to the death?

The township consumer is younger than your media plan. Median age: 27. Typically single, and 2 in 3 households have just one or two people. Rethink the stereotype, and the brief.
