Elmordine has been part of Dreamcatcher South Africa Organisation in Melkhoutfontein for almost 9 years and in this short video she shares her journey with this wonderful organisation.

For more than 35 years, Dreamcatcher South Africa NPC has walked alongside vulnerable and historically excluded township communities - not with ready-made answers, but with a deep belief in the wisdom, strength and potential already present within each community.

Interesting. But will this be effective?

Meta has agreed to pay up to $18 billion to settle massive lawsuits with almost all American states. The lawsuits claimed that Meta intentionally designed its social media platforms to addict young users and misled the public about how safe their products actually were for kids.

Under the ten-year agreement, Meta must follow strict new rules regarding how teenagers use its apps. Teenagers on Instagram and Facebook will be limited to two hours of app time per day. The platforms will also block access between midnight and 6:00 a.m. unless a parent gives explicit permission. Furthermore, Meta must pause most notification alerts during school hours (8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) to keep students from getting distracted during class.

The total settlement includes nearly $16.7 billion distributed among 47 states and U.S. territories, along with an extra $459 million to resolve older privacy issues connected to the Cambridge Analytica data scandal.

While the total of $18 billion sounds huge, it equals only about three to four months of Meta’s overall profits. Meta did not admit to any wrongdoing and stated that keeping teenagers safe on its apps remains a top priority.

However, the agreement does not solve every issue. Meta can still use targeted advertisements and recommendation algorithms, which critics argue keep teens hooked. Additionally, the settlement does not cover thousands of separate private lawsuits brought by individuals, schools, and cities blaming social media for a growing youth mental health crisis. Despite this, experts consider the agreement a major step forward that could change how tech companies design products for young people in the future.
