I have a bit of a thing for frames. More than I probably need, and definitely more than I have walls for.

I’m forever moving them around, thinking about what should go in each one and where they should live. I’ll sit with the idea for a while, let it “sink in”, convince myself I’m getting closer to deciding… and then nothing actually happens.

So they just stay there, waiting for their moment, while I quietly continue the cycle.

I asked AI to help me imagine the ideal MT Studios space and place me in it.

I have to say, the result is actually quite cute. A light-filled studio, calm tones, everything feeling just right. And then there’s me, apparently living my best life in a linen robe, which is honestly both accurate and slightly amusing.

It’s funny seeing a version of an idea come to life like that, even if it’s just a visual interpretation. It still gives you something to think about. And yes, it does look very comfortable.

The lush gardens at have quietly become part of my mornings over the past few weeks.

There is something about the way the early light moves through the walkways, casting the most delicate botanical shadows across stone and path. It shifts constantly, never quite the same twice, and I find myself stopping more and more often just to notice it.

I think it’s safe to say these garden moments are becoming a bit of an obsession.

On the way to a location shoot, I came across this quiet patch of aloes and had to stop.

The morning dew was still sitting on the leaves, catching the light in the most delicate way. Everything about it felt worth pausing for, the texture, the colour, the stillness of it all before the day fully began.

I shot it with my JDBotanics client in mind and their aloe skincare range, which feels so closely connected to this landscape. There is something grounding about seeing the source like this, unstyled and exactly as it is.

Moments like these remind me why I always keep my camera close.

Autumn in Swellendam always feels like it knows exactly what it’s doing.

The light softens, the mornings take their time, and suddenly everything slows down just enough to notice the details again. The trees shift into those warm, familiar tones that make me stop mid-drive more often than I probably should.

There’s a stillness here that doesn’t feel empty, just full in a quieter way. It’s my favourite season in this town, hands down.

Hands down, one of the best things that could ever happen to the studio was getting a proper coffee machine. The kind with all the bells and whistles, and yes, the milk frother thingie too.

It’s changed the rhythm of the day more than I care to admit. Better coffee, better pauses, better conversations, and definitely better moods. Turns out a good cup of coffee isn’t just a luxury, it’s a small but serious studio essential.

I still have a deep love for a good old-fashioned book, especially when it’s about something I care about like photography, design, or food. There’s something about the weight of it in your hands, the pace it sets, the way you linger a little longer than you would online or while listening to a podcast. It’s a different kind of attention.

Truthfully, I don’t have much free time these days. But in my ideal world, I’d be reading right now, wrapped up under a blanket with my dog close by and a hot cup of coffee within reach. No notifications, no tabs open, just pages and quiet.

One day soon, hopefully.

AI isn’t something to fear, but it is something to handle with care.

Used well, it’s a helpful tool. Used blindly, it can quietly undo your hard work. I’ve learned the importance of checking everything properly. Count the fingers and toes. Seriously. If a prompt is slightly off, AI has no problem adding an extra hand or an unexpected limb.

And video? Even more intense. I’ve had AI change a product halfway through a clip. I kid you not. It’s led to plenty of laughs, but also a very real reminder not to leave anything to chance.

The takeaway? Use AI wisely, review thoroughly, and always trust your human eye.

Some images ask to be taken before you even lift the camera.

I have a deep love for texture, and this particular shade of green stops me every time. The surface, the depth, the way the light settles into it all felt too good to walk past. This moment was quietly insistent, and I listened.

Sometimes it’s not about the scene or the setting, but about recognising a colour, a texture, a feeling you know by heart.

Lately, I’ve been shooting a few mornings a week at A Hilltop Country Retreat, and it’s stirred up a rather lovely full-circle moment for me.

Thirteen years ago, this was the very first place I ever stayed in Swellendam, here for a cover shoot in Grootvadersbosch. Coming back now, camera in hand again, feels quietly significant.

On the drive up, I’ve been passing the most spectacular tree dressed in autumn colour. After a few mornings of noticing it, I finally stopped one misty day before the shoot to capture it properly. The light, the fog, the changing leaves, it felt like the landscape insisting on being seen.

Sometimes the image you didn’t plan for becomes the one that stays with you the longest.
