After a full day on the road, pulling into the camping area at Kalahari Lifestyle Lodge was honestly a relief. The campsites are beautifully maintained — level, green (slightly small) and immediately give you that feeling of arriving somewhere that’s been properly thought through.

Each campsite is spotless ,with its own bathroom, hot shower, basin, toilet, power point and braai area, which makes a massive difference when you’re travelling with kids. No rushing, no sharing, no stress — just proper comfort while still enjoying the camping experience.

After setting up, we could relax, let the kids roam a bit, and actually enjoy the evening. The ablutions were clean and well maintained, hot water was consistent, and everything worked exactly as it should — something seasoned campers know is not always a given.

This isn’t rough camping, and it’s not over-the-top luxury either — it’s well-executed, comfortable camping that allows you to rest properly before the next leg of the journey. Perfect as a stopover or even for a longer stay if you want to explore Upington and the Orange River area.

If you’re passing through Upington en route to the Kgalagadi, Namibia, or the West Coast, we can confidently recommend camping at Kalahari Lifestyle Lodge. It’s one of those places you bookmark for future trips.

Day 1 – Road trip mode: ON 🚐🌍

First day of our road trip done and dusted! We made a well-needed stop at Halfpad Handelshuis for a quick bite – the perfect place to let the kids stretch their legs, catch their breath, and for us parents to regain a bit of sanity 😄

From there it was onwards to Upington, where we checked in this afternoon at Kalahari Lifestyle Lodge… and wow, what a place! Easily one of the best and most well-equipped caravan sites we’ve stayed at. Friendly staff, immaculate facilities, and everything you could possibly need. An absolute perfect halfway stop if you’re heading to Namibia or the Transfrontier Park.

And to top it off, we managed to secure one night at Hondeklip Bay tonight – coastal vibes loading!

Yesterday we finally ticked something special off our list – our very first white river rafting experience at Dimalachite 🌊

With the Vaal River running high and continued rain, we honestly wondered if it might be cancelled. But we went ahead anyway… and wow, what an experience! From the moment we hit the water, it was pure adrenaline, laughter, and unforgettable moments.

The guides were absolutely phenomenal – calm, professional, fun, and clearly passionate about what they do. They made us feel safe while still letting us fully enjoy the power of the river and the thrill of every rapid.

This is genuinely a bucket-list experience and one we’d recommend without hesitation.

🌿 Weekend Bush Break at Matamba Bush Camp – Tau Camp 🌿

What an unforgettable escape! We spent the weekend camping at Tau Camp, and honestly… wow. Five very private, spacious campsites, immaculate ablutions, a splash pool to cool off, and endless space for the boys to explore and have fun.

Waking up with giraffe, eland, zebra, nyala, sable, kudu and impala wandering quietly through the open woodland felt like pure magic. With no fences, the wildlife moves freely, making every moment feel like you’re truly part of the bush.

The bathrooms are some of the best we’ve ever seen – spotless, unique, and even offering outdoor showers under the trees and stars. The shared kitchen area and walking/cycling routes make the whole experience even better.

Spectacular place. Peaceful. Well run. A must visit and we’ll definitely recommend it!
