*NINTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR II.*

*FIRST READING*
Do the work of an evangelist, for I am already on the point of being sacrificed. The Lord will award me the crown of righteousness.

*A reading from the second Letter of Saint Paul to Timothy (2 TIMOTHY 4: 1 - 8)*

Beloved: I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, and exhort, be unfailing in patience and in teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths. As for you, always be steady, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry. For I am already on the point of being sacrificed; the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

*The Word of the Lord.*

*RESPONSORIAL PSALM*
Taken from Psalm 71: 8 - 9, 14 - 15ab, 16 - 17, 22 (R.) 15ab

And the response is;
*R/. My mouth will tell of your salvation, Lord.*

My mouth is filled with your praise,
with your glory, all the day long.
Do not reject me now that I am old;
when my strength fails do not forsake me. *R/.*

But as for me, I will always hope,
and praise you more and more.
My mouth will tell of your justice,
and all the day long of your salvation. *R/.*

I will come with praise of your might, O Lord;
I will call to mind your justice, yours, O Lord, alone.
O God, you have taught me from my youth,
and I proclaim your wonders still. *R/.*

So I will give you thanks on the lyre
for your faithfulness, O my God.
To you will I sing with the harp,
to you, the Holy One of Israel. *R/.*

*GOSPEL ACCLAMATION*
Matthew 5: 3

*Alleluia.*
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
*Alleluia.*

*GOSPEL*
“This poor widow has put in more than all the others.”

*A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (MARK 12: 38 - 44)*

At that time: In his teaching Jesus said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to go about in long robes, and to have salutations in the market places and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honour at feasts, who devour widows’ houses and for a pretence make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” And he sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the multitude putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came, and put in two copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him, and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. For they all contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, her whole living.”

CENTRAL PROVINCE PS WARNS AGAINST COLLUSION IN GOVERNMENT ASSET AUCTIONS

Central Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Milner Mwanakampwe has warned against any form of collusion during the auctioning of government assets, stressing the need for transparency, fairness and accountability throughout the disposal process.

Speaking when RDF Auctioneers paid a courtesy call on his office, Dr. Mwanakampwe recalled concerns raised during previous auctions where a small group of individuals allegedly dominated the bidding process and acquired a large number of government assets.

He said government is determined to prevent such occurrences, noting that the assets being disposed of belong to the people of Central Province and, ultimately, the people of Zambia.

Dr. Mwanakampwe stated that his office has a responsibility to ensure that the disposal exercise is conducted in a fair, transparent and credible manner that serves the public interest.

The Permanent Secretary further called on members of the disposal committee and internal auditors to remain vigilant and ensure that any irregularities are promptly reported and addressed.

He emphasized the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the auction process and ensuring that all interested bidders are given an equal opportunity to participate.

Dr. Mwanakampwe also urged auctioneers to promote local participation, stating that residents of Central Province should be given a fair chance to benefit from the disposal of government assets before opportunities are extended to people from outside the province.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary warned against the practice of bidders artificially inflating prices during auctions and later failing to honour their bids.

He described such conduct as unacceptable and detrimental to public interest, adding that it undermines the credibility of the auction process and denies deserving bidders an opportunity to acquire the assets.

Dr. Mwanakampwe reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring that all public asset disposal processes are conducted in accordance with established regulations and in a manner that promotes accountability and value for money.

CHIBOMBO DISTRICT RECORDS EDUCATION SECTOR GAINS AS FREE EDUCATION BECOMES LAW

Government, through the Ministry of Education in Chibombo District, has held an Annual General Meeting at Ipongo Zone aimed at sensitising parents and community members on the achievements made in improving the education sector within the district and across the country.

Speaking during the meeting, Chibombo District Commissioner Lloyd Kayeka said the district has recorded significant progress in the education sector since the New Dawn Government came into office.

Mr. Kayeka noted that Ipongo Primary School is among several schools that have benefited from upgrades funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), highlighting Government’s continued investment in education infrastructure.

He said Government remains committed to fulfilling its promises by improving learning facilities and enhancing service delivery in schools across the district.

Mr. Kayeka further urged parents and community members to take advantage of the Free Education Policy, which has now been enacted into law, by ensuring that all school-going children are enrolled and remain in school.

Meanwhile, District Education Board Secretary Bishop Luputa said the education sector continues to promote inclusivity by ensuring that learners with disabilities have equal access to quality education.

Mr. Luputa noted that the Free Education Policy and the School Feeding Programme have contributed significantly to improved learner performance, increased school attendance and enhanced infrastructure development, particularly in rural areas such as Ipongo.

He commended Government under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema for its continued support to the education sector, saying the policies being implemented are contributing to positive social and economic development across the country.

Mr. Luputa said the transformation being witnessed in schools demonstrates Government’s commitment to ensuring that every child has access to quality education regardless of their background.

The meeting also coincided with a historic development in the education sector, as President Hakainde Hichilema assented to the Free Education Bill, officially making free education law in Zambia and cementing one of the New Dawn Government’s flagship programmes.
