THE HIDDEN DANGER ON HOW TV IS HARMING ZAMBIA'S YOUTH.
By Kausheni Mupishi
Zambia, a nation renowned for its rich cultural heritage and strong moral fabric, is grappling with an insidious threat: the moral decay of its youth. The proliferation of inappropriate content on television has become a significant contributor to this decline, warping the minds and values of young people. It is imperative for the government to take decisive action to regulate the broadcast of harmful programs and safeguard the moral well-being of Zambia's future generations.
Honestly in Zambia, something dangerous is happening. A hidden force is affecting the minds and values of young people. This force is the bad content on TV and social media.
TV shows and online videos are filling young minds with violence, s*x, and materialism where many draw inspiration from people whose morals and source of success leaves much to be desired. This is making it hard for them to know right from wrong.
The government needs to act to protect Zambia's youth from this harm.
But there is hope! Zambia has many good role models who can inspire young people with positive values. People like Our Republican President Mr Hakainde Hichilema the man who defiled all odds to conquer in business, who also demonstrated consistency through his political career, Mizinga Melu a woman in the corporate word specifically the finance (Banking)whose life must be admired as she lives a life that promotes decency and family values, we recently saw on how she Honoured her husband, Something many young ladies must draw inspiration from, you can be successful without having to loose your morals.
Mizinga Melu is promoting good morals and traditions through her life of decency and upholding family valued. People like Olympic athlete Samuel Matete, are showing young people the value of hard work and determination,
Musicians like Wezi and Pompi, who promote positive values and Zambian culture through their music, Community leaders like Dr. Mwangala and Dr. Musonda, who are working to improve education and healthcare in Zambia.Entrepreneurs like Monica Musonda and Kapasa K***a, who are creating jobs and opportunities for young people the list is endless.
We need more role models like these, who can inspire young people to make good choices and live with integrity. We need TV shows and online content that promote Zambian culture, traditions, and positive values.
I think the Zambian government through the ministry information and Broadcasting needs to step in and try this:
1. Talk openly about the impact of media on society.
2. Teach young people to think critically about what they watch.
3. Support local content creators who make positive shows.
4. Make rules for TV and online content to follow.
By addressing this hidden danger and promoting good role models, Zambia can guide its youth toward a better future.
We can't keep on exposing our youths to TV shows which promotes wrong values an example is one show that airs on Zambezi Magic where a so called inspiration to many young ladies proudly mentions that she is in multiple relationships, surely is that the inspiration we want our daughters, sisters, brothers and cousins to be subjected to? Have we really lost it as country to a level where we can't outrightly differiciate good from wrong?
How do we allow men acting like women yet we claim to be a Christian nation that upholds good morals and values?
Social media influencers should be regulated, it shouldn't be about numbers and profit making but morals and values, let's have order as a country, let's support reality shows that support moral uprightness and not the opposite, We are tired or media being flooded by immoral content.
If this is addressed even the rate of divorce that has rampantly gone High can reduce.
I Submit!
