Two Defilement Cases Rock Northern Zambia; Police Hunt for Fugitive Suspect
The Zambia Police Service in Northern Province is investigating two separate, disturbing defilement cases involving minors, including one child with a mental disability, according to a press release issued on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
In the first incident, a 15-year-old girl from Lunte District is alleged to have been defiled by two suspects—a 15-year-old juvenile and a 20-year-old man—from her own village. The abuse reportedly occurred between January 1 and March 20, 2026.
According to police reports filed by the victim’s father, the abuse came to light when the girl began showing signs of pregnancy, causing her mother significant concern. In April, the mother took the girl to a local health centre, where medical tests confirmed she was three months pregnant.
Upon returning home, the victim disclosed to her parents that she had been carnally known by the two suspects on separate occasions. The family summoned both individuals, who separately admitted to the acts. The matter was immediately reported to law enforcement.
In a separate case, police in Mporokoso District are actively searching for a male adult suspect accused of defiling a 12-year-old girl with a mental disability. The incident is believed to have occurred between May 3 and May 6, 2026.
The victim’s father reported that he and his wife had left their two children, including the victim, in the care of a trusted neighbour and close family friend while they visited a nearby village on May 3. Upon their return on May 5, the father noticed the girl was not walking properly. After being questioned by her mother, the victim revealed she had been defiled by the suspect while in his care during their absence.
The suspect is currently on the run.
Authorities confirmed that in the Lunte District case, both suspects are in police custody awaiting formal charges and a court appearance. Medical examinations have been conducted, and statements have been recorded from the victim, guardians, and witnesses. The victim is receiving necessary support.
“The Zambia Police Service wishes to sternly warn all individuals involved or intending to engage in such heinous acts that defilement is a serious criminal offence punishable by law, and offenders will be pursued, arrested, and prosecuted without compromise,” the press release stated.
Regarding the Mporokoso case, investigators have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect. Medical examinations have been completed, and witness statements have been obtained.
Police reiterated their commitment to protecting children and vulnerable persons, stating that “such conduct will not be tolerated,” and that all perpetrators will be brought to justice.
