15 UPND MEMBERS EXPELLED FOLLOWING THE MAZABUKA NKOMBO INCIDENT

By Annie C Kaunda

The ruling United party for national development has announced the expulsion of 15 alleged party members identified as having participated in the violence during Gary Nkombo’s nomination process.

Party secretary general Batuke Imenda says the UPND does not condone lawlessness, hooliganism or political violence in any form.

Imenda says those responsible acted entirely on their own and outside the principles, values and discipline of the party.

Meanwhile Imenda has called on the Zambia Police Service and other law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and professionally in ensuring that all individuals responsible for the violence are brought to justice, regardless of their political affiliation or social standing.

He has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to upholding constitutional rights, democratic principles and the rule of law.

Imenda has emphasized that every eligible citizen has the right to participate in elections either through a political party or as an independent candidate, adding that acts of violence, intimidation and attempts to block candidates from exercising their democratic rights have no place in Zambia’s democracy.

MUTALE PROMISES A TRANSFORMED MUNALI CONSITITUENCY

By Annie C Kaunda

Aspiring Munali parliamentary candidate Bizwell Mutale has pledged to transform Munali Constituency into what he describes as a cooperative community aimed at improving the lives of residents.

Addressing party structures in the constituency, Mutale said poverty and hunger levels remain high in many parts of Munali despite the constituency being located in the nation’s capital, Lusaka.

He described Munali as “a village in the capital city,” saying the area has for years lacked meaningful development and transformation.

He noted that despite the UPND being in government, many residents in the constituency are still struggling with poor living conditions and economic hardship.

The aspiring candidate has however promised to bring development to the constituency if adopted as the party’s candidate, stating that leadership should focus on transforming people’s lives.

Mutale further pledged to restore what he called the lost glory of both Munali Constituency and the party structures in the area.

And Mutale says the party in the constituency will be changed for the better through strengthened leadership and people-centered development programs.

He has since called on residents and party members to support his vision for a transformed and economically empowered Munali Constituency.

DR CHILUFYA WITHDRAWS FROM PRESIDENTIAL RACE, CITES MOUNTING LEGAL CHALLENGES

By Annie C Kaunda

Former Patriotic Front presidential aspirant Dr Chitalu Chilifya has officially withdrawn from the race for Zambia’s August 2026 general elections, citing mounting legal and political challenges facing the opposition party.

In a formal statement issued Wednesday, Dr. Chilufya confirmed that he had “unconditionally withdrawn” his candidacy under the party banner and notified the electoral commission of Zambia (ECZ) of the decision.

The withdrawal effectively cancels the introduction letter that had been submitted to the ECZ on April 29, 2026, signaling the end of his bid to contest the presidency on the former ruling party’s ticket.

Dr. Chilufya says the decision follows an “exhaustive evaluation” of the prevailing legal and political environment, which he described as increasingly difficult for the Patriotic Front.

He has pointed to ongoing legal disputes involving the party, compounded by the recently enacted Electoral process Amendment Act, No.12 of 2026 as key factors behind his withdrawal.

Dr. Chilufya has thanked party officials, grassroots structures and supporters who backed his campaign efforts.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to national service outside the presidential race.
