WESTERN PS CALLS FOR COMMITMENT TO PRESIDENTIAL IRRIGATION INITIATIVE
Western Province Permanent Secretary, Simomo Akapelwa has urged beneficiary institutions under the Presidential Irrigation Initiative to embrace the programme with commitment and responsibility, emphasizing that its success will depend on the dedication and collaboration of all stakeholders.
Speaking during the Provincial Launch and Orientation Training for the Production Unit Programme at Kambule STEM Secondary School in Mongu District, Mr. Akapelwa described the initiative as a timely intervention aimed at strengthening food security, supporting school feeding programmes, promoting climate-resilient agriculture, and enhancing practical learning under the Competence-Based Curriculum.
He further called on the 35 beneficiary institutions in Western Province to begin implementation immediately, utilise the resources responsibly, protect the infrastructure provided, and work closely with communities and other stakeholders to ensure the programme's sustainability and long-term impact.
The Presidential Irrigation Initiative is a Government programme designed to equip selected schools and institutions with irrigation systems and agricultural production units, enabling year-round food production, practical skills development, and improved food security while reducing dependence on rainfall.
