Life has taught me that a degree alone is not enough. Along the way, I realized that I needed more than just academic knowledge—I needed skills I could stand on, skills that could speak for me even when opportunities were limited.

That is why I kept pushing myself to learn more. I earned certificates in Financial Accounting, Data Analysis, and Records Management so I could understand systems, money, and information in a practical way. I wanted to be useful, reliable, and ready wherever I was placed. These skills strengthened my degree and gave me confidence that I could add value in any office or organisation.

But my journey did not stop there. I chose to learn with my hands as well as my mind. Training in Solar Installation taught me to adapt to new technology and think about sustainable solutions. Bricklaying and Plastering reminded me that honest work has dignity and that building something from the ground up is powerful. Metal Fabrication shaped my patience, precision, and problem-solving skills.

In a fast-changing world, I knew digital skills were no longer optional. So I invested in ICT, Advanced Excel, and Graphic Design. These skills gave me the ability to analyse data, present ideas clearly, and communicate creatively. Learning Time Management helped me balance work, study, and life, even when the pressure was heavy.

There were moments when I felt tired, questioned myself, and wondered if all this effort was worth it. But every certificate became a reminder that I refused to give up on myself. Each one represents persistence, growth, and belief in my own potential.

If you are reading this and feeling discouraged, know this: you are not late, you are not behind, and you are not failing. Keep learning. Add skills. Build yourself step by step. One day, your degree will open the door—but your certificates, your character, and your resilience will keep you moving forward.

Working with Hichilema was the right call, it's paying off - PF MP

KALULUSHI PF member of parliament Kampamba Mulenga says her decision to cooperate with the UPND government is paying off, citing a wave of visible development projects that have changed the face of her constituency.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CUJK7XsG4/

Appearing on Crown TV’s Spotlight programme, Mulenga said the results speak for themselves, from upgraded schools and clinics to youth training and women’s empowerment programmes, all funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Mulenga noted that under the expanded CDF and decentralisation policy, resources are now reaching local communities faster and being managed more transparently than before.

“Kalulushi is changing before our eyes. We have new classrooms, renovated clinics, and young people being equipped with real skills. That’s what happens when leaders choose cooperation over confrontation,” she said.

Mulenga commended President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, describing it as one focused on results rather than rhetoric.

According to her, President Hichilema’s commitment to decentralisation has empowered local authorities to deliver development that citizens can directly benefit from.

Turning to the political climate, the Kalulushi lawmaker challenged opposition leaders to offer practical alternatives rather than constant criticism, saying Zambians are hungry for solutions, not slogans.

She added that her allegiance remains with people of Kalulushi, not partisan divisions.

“My duty is to my constituency. If working with the government of the day brings clean water, better schools and jobs then that’s the right call,” she stated.

Mulenga reaffirmed her intention to continue cooperating with the UPND government as the 2026 elections approach, pledging to keep pushing for unity, progress and inclusive growth in Kalulushi.

Cholera scare leads to Yalelo shutdown in Mpika

A LEADING fish outlet in Mpika district has been forced to shut its doors after health inspectors uncovered filthy conditions at the premises, just hours after the district recorded its first cholera case, igniting fears of a potential outbreak.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BCyiF9oJG/

Yalelo Fish Limited, located along the busy Great North Road, was ordered to cease operations following an emergency inspection by Mpika Town Council’s health team.

The inspection revealed disturbing hygiene lapses, including unsanitary food handling, offensive odors and a heavy infestation of flies.

Senior health inspector Francis Kapila revealed that the outlet posed an immediate risk to public health and was in breach of multiple health and safety laws.

According to Kapila, the closure falls under enforcement of Zambia’s Public Health Act and the Food Safety Act No. 7 of 2019, both of which mandate strict sanitary standards for food businesses.

“The cholera outbreak in Mpika is an eye opener that restaurant owners should maintain high hygiene standards,” he said.

He said the council has launched a sensitisation campaign targeting restaurants, bakeries, butcheries, and other food outlets, demanding compliance with basic health protocols.

“The sensitisation is emphasising people in the district to have hand washing buckets, liquid soaps and adequate water supply.”

As fears of a wider outbreak loom, the council called on all residents and business owners to act swiftly and responsibly, stating that community cooperation is the first line of defense against cholera.

Police boss pays tribute to Lungu

INSPECTOR General of Police Graphel Musamba has described the late former commissioner of police–administration, Standwell Lungu, as a cheerful and dedicated officer whose service left an indelible mark on the police service.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DGBNvwRFJ/

Musamba led a team of senior officers to the funeral house in Lusaka yesterday, where he joined the widow, Jennipher Lungu, children and relatives in mourning the 63-year-old who died on Monday at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

Speaking with a deep sense of loss, the police chief comforted the family, saying the entire Service shared in their grief.

“The Zambia Police Service stands shoulder to shoulder with you in support, comfort, and prayers during this difficult time,” he said.

Musamba remembered the late Lungu not only as a seasoned leader but also as a man who carried joy into every space he walked into.

“We have not only lost a reservoir of knowledge in policing but also a family member who was always available to attend to officers’ affairs. He was a dedicated and cheerful senior officer,” he added.

He recalled working with Mr. Lungu in his early years when he was first posted to Northern Province, noting that their bond grew through years of service and mutual respect.

Born in 1961 in Nyimba, Lungu joined the Zambian Police Service in 1983 and quickly rose through the ranks, serving in Northern, Central, Muchinga, and Western Provinces before reaching the position of Commissioner of Police–Administration.

His long career saw him mentor young officers, pursue higher education and bring technical expertise into the force.

He retired in 2017, leaving behind a legacy of discipline and leadership that many officers today still draw lessons from.

Lungu is survived by his wife Jennipher, five children, and five grandchildren.

The world is leaving the man behind but still expects this man to provide leadership in homes.

When we look around, how many good girls schools do we have?

Can that number compare to good boys schools around?

Have we noticed that at both G9 and G12 exams girls are doing way better than boys?

Do we see how many initiatives we have focusing on the girl child in school?
Do we see how many NGO's advocating for girl child education?

Are there an many programs for the boy child?
Are there groups talking about the boy child?

When we look at the streets, do we see the number of junkies and mad people?
Which number is more, boys or girls, men or women?

When was the last time we heard that among the thieves that were gunned down by C5 there was a woman?

Another sad reality is a man can lead a home with no complaints even when the wife is not working. The opposite is very rare.
I will not talk about men who educated women, only for the woman to turn around and say I am not your level.
I don't want to talk about how some children will give more money to the mother and less to the father.
I don't want to talk about how some women say my money is my money but a man's money is our money in certain homes.

We have more women in our population than men. We are slowly losing the man and society is quiet.

Let's take care of the boy child too and the men before we send them into extinction.
If we carry on like this, there will be no man to marry our educated daughters and provide leadership in homes.

I don't want society to be blind towards men. I encourage men to do the best they can for those around them. But let not those around them forget about men.

If society dares to forget about men, let not men forget about themselves too!!!!

The silence around the boy child and the man is too loud!!!

Sorrow floods online as Solwezi cop shoots constructor wife 3 years after wedding

BEFORE her name made the news for all the wrong reasons, Womba Samulozela was known in Solwezi for something far more inspiring.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15nNZtgetL/?mibextid=oFDknk

At just 36, Womba had carved out a reputation for herself in the male-dominated construction industry, managing her own projects, building homes, and earning admiration for doing what many considered men’s work.

Just three years ago, Womba Samulozela danced in her white gown, full of joy and dreams, during a colourful wedding and kitchen party that left many admiring her love story.

She tied the knot in 2022 with her lover Funkunta Muyembi, 46, a police officer stationed at Solwezi Central Police station.

Sadly, that bright journey was cut short in the early hours of today by the very man she once called her husband.

Womba was killed together with her stepbrother, 42-year-old Wanna Samulozela, who was living with the couple.

According to Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, the gruesome incident took place around 05:30 hours in Solwezi’s Low Density area and was reported to Solwezi Central Police Station at 09:21 hours by a relative, 45-year-old Kalumbu Agnes.

Police say the couple had separated just two days prior, on July 30, following ongoing marital disputes.

But today, Muyembi reportedly used a spare key to gain entry into the house, where he confronted the two victims before opening fire.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found all three deceased in the same room.

Womba had sustained a gunshot wound to the left ribs, her brother Wanna had been shot in the same area without an exit wound, and Muyembi had a self-inflicted shot to the neck using an AK-47 rifle, which lay clamped to his chest with the safety catch open.

The weapon, serial number 1674, was confirmed to have been drawn earlier that morning at 05:05 hours, after the officer claimed he was following up on a report in Mutanda.

However, instead of going on duty, he turned the government-issued firearm into an instrument of domestic horror.

The late Wanna Samulozela, a newly transferred doctor from Lusaka, had been staying at the house, likely as a support system in the wake of the couple’s strained relationship.

The three bodies were taken to Solwezi General Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations and will later be handed over to the families for burial.

"This unfortunate incident highlights the importance of addressing domestic disputes through peaceful and lawful means," Hamoonga stated.

"The Zambia Police Service deeply regrets the loss of life and extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families."

Vehicle hits motorbike, killing clinical officer, her baby, 2 pedestrians in Mwense

A ROAD traffic accident in Mwense District has claimed the lives of a clinical officer, her one-year-old son, a 60-year-old grandmother, and her 11-month-old granddaughter.

The crash, which occurred on the Mansa–Mwense road in Kabundafyela Village, involved a Toyota Noah and an unregistered motorcycle.

According to Luapula Province Police commanding officer Mwala Yuyi, the Toyota Noah, driven by 32-year-old Joseph Kaunda, rammed into the motorcycle from behind before hitting the pedestrian with her grandchild.

"The accident occurred when the driver of the Toyota Noah reportedly due to divided attention, collided with the motorcycle," said Yuyi.

The clinical officer, Lucy Chiyanika, who had her baby, Lojenzo Nyirongo on her back, died at the scene, along with the pedestrian, Joyce Mwenya, and her granddaughter, Chama Agness.

All four victims sustained fatal head injuries.

A second clinical officer, Yotam Nyirongo, who was also a passenger on the motorcycle survived with a suspected fractured leg and facial injuries.

He is currently receiving treatment at Kashiba Mini Hospital.

Both the driver of the Toyota Noah and the 24-year-old rider of the motorcycle, Arnold Mumba, have been detained by police.

They face charges of causing death by dangerous driving and riding.

The Toyota Noah has been impounded, and the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Mambilima Mission Hospital mortuary.

However, the motorbike has mysteriously gone missing as the police shared they are currently searching for it.

It was reportedly missing from the accident scene.

Don't look down on us, we will make you proud, Barbra Banda assures Zambian fans

COPPER Queens captain Barbra Banda has urged Zambians not to write off the national women’s football team, insisting that the spirit and identity of the Copper Queens remains intact despite recent doubts from fans.

Speaking during a CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nation (WAfCON) Stars Spotlight Webinar, Banda defended her team saying the players are focused and determined to deliver strong performances when the tournament gets underway on July 5 and called for public support.

This comes at a time when confidence in the squad has been shaken by inconsistent performances in the build-up to the tournament.

However, Banda, who remains the face of the team both locally and internationally, says Zambians must remember the resilience and determination that earned the team a historic third-place finish at the last WAfCON and qualification to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“To our fans back home in Zambia, [they] should not look down on us. We are still the Copper Queens and we will make you proud,” Banda said during a CAF WAfCON Stars Spotlight Webinar.

According to her, the Copper Queens are not just going to Morocco to add numbers, but to compete with one heart as the team’s shared ambitions are stronger than ever.

Having recently been named both CAF and BBC African Women’s Footballer of the Year and the first African to be included in the FIFPRO Women’s World 11, the captain is confident the Copper Queens have what it takes to go far, but insists they cannot do it without support from the Zambian people.

With Zambia just days away from kicking off their 2024 reschedule WAfCON campaign against hosts Morocco on July 5, Zambia will compete in Group A alongside Morocco, Senegal and DR Congo, with only two teams guaranteed passage to the knockout stage.
