A MAN of Lusaka told Matero Local Court that his wife has been denying him conjugal rights for months, sleeping with her legs tightly crossed and turning away from him in bed.
Kennedy Njovu, 57, of Garden Park, told the court that his wife, Catherine Kasaka, 44, refuses to share intimacy and often sleeps on the very edge of the bed, facing the wall.
Njovu told the magistrate that whenever he tries to touch his wife, she bursts into tears until he sends her to sleep in their children’s room.
“Even when I ask her to return to our bedroom, she comes back and crosses her legs again,” Njovu said.
“I have not involved our families because I find it too humiliating. I have been suffering in silence.”
He also raised concerns about Kasaka’s late-night habits, coming to bed past midnight and routinely washing her private parts before sleeping, which he said left him suspicious.
In a dramatic moment, Njovu presented two pairs of underwear and a short skirt to the magistrate, claiming he had never seen his wife wear them at home, except only when going out.
“She has never worn these to make me feel good or to give me appetite for her,” he said.
Njovu further alleged that neighbours and acquaintances had reported his wife’s involvement with younger men.
When confronted, he said, the wife dismissed his worries, even after he pleaded for peace of mind, saying he was so distracted he feared being hit by a car.
After failed reconciliations, Njovu said his wife was sent to her parents' home to reflect.
Her relatives later returned with a white chicken and begged forgiveness on her behalf.
He accepted, but the peace was short-lived.
“I asked her three times to clean my private parts and she refused each time. Then one morning, she woke up and asked me to clean hers, I was shocked,” Njovu testified.
The final straw came when he found his wife standing awkwardly with their 30-year old tenant, with whom she had exchanged phone numbers.
He said she only contacted the tenant to arrange rent payments when he was away.
In her defence, Kasaka denied all allegations, calling them baseless.
She said the underwear displayed in court was brand new and never worn and that the short skirt and bum shorts belonged to their married daughter, not her.
“I don’t even go out anywhere. This man is lying,” Kasaka said.
Magistrate Harriet Mulenga adjourned the matter to August 25 for further hearing.
