Top-Of-Mind Awareness
Well TOMA refers to a product, service or (usually) a brand that comes first in a customers mind when they think of a particular industry.
It's the first brand that comes into mind, when an individual is asked an unprompted question about a category.
It's just like how people in Zimbabwe think of Cocacola, Pepsi (PepsiCo) etc when they are asked to name beverage companies they know and barely does anyone ever remember to mention Lyons (Cascade).
Or how people prefer to buy cellphone lines/simcards from Econet and/or maybe Netone now but barely does anyone want to buy one from Telecel.
We could define top of mind awareness as the most remembered brand names at any given point in time. It is referred to as a special form of brand awareness.
So what is the trick behind creating a robust brand image?
You need to build top of mind awareness, so that whenever people think of products or services related to your business, its you who comes into their mind first and no doubt, they are coming to buy from you because of the following reasons;
1. They now trust you
2. Which clearly means that they understand your brand, what it offers, how it operates and how it treats people.
3. And, they find your brand relevant in their lives because somehow they can relate to your story or they want to achieve whatever it is that they are missing if they dont engage your brand ie Cocacola portrays the image, you will be happy and refreshed after drinking Coke no matter your situation and people love that.
4. Lastly, because you have left them no choice but to love you because you have keep showing up everywhere dude!! (marketing rule of 7😉)
