Mines & Mining Development Ministry Engages Base Mineral Producers to Strengthen Zimbabwe's Mineral Export Competitiveness

The Deputy Minister of Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, Zimbabwe (MMMD) Hon. F. Moyo and the Permanent Secretary, Dr. T.U. Wushe, yesterday led a stakeholder engagement meeting bringing together MMMD, the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) and producers of base minerals, particularly tungsten and antimony.

The engagement provided an important platform to discuss challenges affecting Zimbabwe's mineral exports and identify practical solutions to improve the sector's competitiveness.

Key discussions centred on export procedures, market access, logistics, regulatory compliance and value addition. Industry stakeholders also shared valuable insights that will support evidence-based policy implementation, improve the ease of doing business and strengthen Zimbabwe's position in regional and international mineral markets.

The engagement reflects MMMD's commitment to creating an enabling environment for the mining sector while reinforcing MMCZ's mandate to facilitate mineral marketing and exports in support of sustainable economic growth.

Every tonne of mineral exported should create more value for Zimbabwe.

That is exactly what the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) is working to achieve. During the first half of 2026, facilitated mineral exports worth US$2.532 billion, an 84% increase from the US$1.376 billion recorded during the same period in 2025.

Behind these numbers is a bigger story.

Zimbabwe is making progress in moving beyond the export of raw minerals towards beneficiation and value addition, processing minerals locally before they reach international markets. This means greater export value, increased industrial activity, skills development and more opportunities for Zimbabweans.

This milestone demonstrates the country's growing capacity to participate higher up the global battery minerals value chain while maximising returns from its natural resources.

As Zimbabwe continues to unlock greater value from its minerals, MMCZ remains committed to connecting local producers to global markets, safeguarding national mineral revenues and supporting Government's Vision 2030 of building an upper-middle-income economy.

Every mineral that leaves Zimbabwe illegally is a lost opportunity for national development.
That is why the Zimbabwe Stakeholders Consultative Forum on Mineral Leakages convened its Second Quarter Meeting last week, bringing together , Zimbabwe Revenue Authority - ZIMRA , Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, Zimbabwe, the CID Minerals, Fauna and Flora Unit and the National Economic Conduct Inspectorate (NECI).
The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration, embracing emerging technologies and improving systems that prevent mineral smuggling.
When Zimbabwe's minerals are properly accounted for, the country earns more from its natural resources. That means greater potential to invest in better roads, schools, hospitals, public services and economic opportunities for communities.
