Women’s History Month | MMCZ Women in Mining Series
Meet Martha Chiwambutsa, Sales Executive in MMCZ’s Non-Metals Department and the longest-serving technical woman at the Corporation.
Martha’s journey into geology began during her childhood at a mine, where visits to the refinery sparked her fascination with how rocks produce valuable minerals like gold.
Graduating in 1991 with a BSc in Geology and Biology, she entered a field where very few women were represented. Through mentorship from respected professionals such as Dr Maria Maki, Ms Makoni, and the late Timothy Bimha, she built a successful career in Zimbabwe’s mineral sector.
This Women’s History Month, Martha encourages young women to pursue technical roles in mining and mineral sciences.
Her message: with mentorship and determination, women belong in mining.
