*Madziwa Township to Host Mashonaland Central’s Monthly Clean-Up Drive This Friday*

Mashonaland Central Province will once again turn out in force this Friday, 5 June 2026, as Madziwa Township becomes the focal point for the Provincial Clean-Up Campaign. The exercise will kick off at 0800hrs, with residents, community leaders, local authorities, and volunteers expected to gather at Madziwa Township to restore order and pride to the area.

The clean-up has grown into a cherished tradition across the province, observed every first Friday of the month as part of Zimbabwe’s national commitment to environmental health and civic responsibility. In Madziwa, this month’s edition is expected to draw strong participation from schools, churches, business owners, and households, all united by the goal of creating cleaner streets, cleared drainage systems, and healthier public spaces.

Provincial officials say the initiative goes beyond collecting litter. It’s about changing mindsets and building a culture where every citizen takes ownership of their surroundings. Madziwa’s selection as this month’s host underscores the township’s role as a growing economic and residential hub in Shamva District, and organizers are calling on everyone to arrive early, bring gloves and brooms, and play their part.

As the clock strikes 8am on Friday, Madziwa will join other communities across Mashonaland Central in proving that small, consistent actions can transform towns one Friday at a time.

HEADLINE :MIRACLE SAND DAM PROJECT TO HYDRATE ZINGORE PRIMARY AND ITS COMMUNITIES

STORY BY : Knowledge Khanye Zw ( Environment and Livelihoods Correspondent)

Mount Darwin | A lifeline has emerged for Zingore Primary School and surrounding villages as Welthungerhilfe (WHH), funded by Charity Water, greenlights a sand dam water extraction project along Donga River in Chihundi Village, Ward 38, Mount Darwin District. The project forms part of WHH’s Rural Water Sanitation and Hygiene programme, implemented in collaboration with the government.

After a crucial technical assessment on May 5, experts from Pfura RDC, EMA, RIDA, ZINWA, alongside Cllr Nyahuyanga, village heads and community representatives confirmed excellent water yield trapped in the heavily silted sands, proving this intervention can end the crippling water crisis that has made livelihoods unbearable.
Repeated borehole failures in this dry zone under Chief Dotito have left individual, institutional and community projects short lived, affecting 280 pupils, 11 teachers at Zingore Primary and 425 total households across Chihundi (115 households) and Kufandirori (110 households)villages. This solar powered sand dam and piped water scheme, building on 2024 inception and feasibility studies, will deliver clean water directly to the school and villages, reviving farming, sustaining projects and restoring hope.

Community members, visibly relieved, pledged labour for trench digging, rock gathering and land rehabilitation, with Cllr Nyahuyanga stressing maximum stewardship of the project for success. Without this project, short lived efforts continue to fail, but with collective efforts, it transforms Mount Darwin's parched communities into thriving ones, proving sustainable water access is not a luxury, but a right.
