Here's a number worth sitting with: 45% of Australians now view Israel negatively. That's more than China, at 39%.

The reshuffle goes further: the US, at 40% negative, is now viewed almost exactly as unfavourably as China.

The Essential poll asked Australians to rate 12 countries. Swipe to see where each one landed, and tell us: which number surprised you most?

For years, political outrage directed at Pauline Hanson may have had an unintended effect: "she is the angry outsider we have co-created."

That’s the argument Peter Lewis makes in his latest op-ed, where he suggests Hanson has been most effectively challenged not through condemnation, but through scrutiny.

Instead of reacting with more outrage, he argues for engaging directly with her proposals and testing them in good faith.

Because according to him "none of her populist policies are actually that popular."

Across Australia, state and territory governments are pursuing punitive policies that are driving the mass incarceration of Aboriginal children. Not only do these policies harm our children and families, they do not make the community safer. In fact, the evidence is clear; jailing children makes communities more dangerous.

That’s why just weeks ago, , alongside more than 200 organisations and leaders across civil society launched an open letter to the Prime Minister, urging him to act on the youth justice crisis. And they made headlines.

Now they’re coming together for an online event to to share what’s next and tell you what you can do to be part of it.

Because to end this crisis, we need everyone who cares about children, everyone who cares about community safety, to get involved.

The details are:
What: Online town hall to hear an important update on the youth justice campaign
When: TODAY, 1pm – 2pm AEST,

Do Australians want to fix the housing system, or protect what they've built in it?

Just before the Budget, Peter Lewis joined PK to dig into the gap between what people say they want and what they'll accept when it comes to reform.

Now that we've seen the Budget — where do you think the government got it right, or wrong?

We asked Australians to rate three leaders on the job they’re each doing: Pauline Hanson as One Nation leader, Anthony Albanese as Prime Minister, and Angus Taylor as Opposition leader.

Only one cleared majority approval, and it wasn’t the PM…

Right now, there are more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in prison than ever before.

From coast to coast across Australia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are being criminalised and imprisoned at alarming rates.

This is happening because state and territory governments are more concerned with political point-scoring than evidence-based reforms.

Locking up kids is an express ticket to a life of crime and suffering. Throwing a child in prison increases the likelihood they will have ongoing contact with the criminal justice system – which only harms our communities.

That’s why NATSILS - National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services, alongside 200 organisations and leaders – has penned this open letter to Anthony Albanese , calling on him to act.
