Our Creative Director, Angela Golding, often shares valuable insights with students and emerging professionals looking to build a career in design.

One of her key pieces of advice?

Skills can be taught. Mindset is much harder to develop.

Technical ability will always be important, but qualities such as curiosity, willingness to learn, adaptability and a positive attitude are often what set people apart over the long term.

We've seen talented people flourish when they find the right environment, and we've seen the impact that a strong culture can have on helping individuals reach their potential.

For anyone starting out in their career, Angela's advice is simple:

Don't just look for a job. Look for the right fit.

The best outcomes happen when people find a workplace where they can grow, contribute and genuinely enjoy what they do.

On site today at a Social Housing project in East Brisbane, undertaking a site orientation as part of the wayfinding strategy.

It was also a first site visit for our intern, Svetlana, providing valuable insight into the built environment, user experience and the construction process. Seeing a project firsthand is an important part of understanding how design decisions translate into real spaces.

We're excited to see Exhibition Shifting Ground continue its tour, now showing at The Condensery, Somerset Regional Art Gallery until 12 July.

Curated by Larissa Warren, the exhibition brings together the work of twelve contemporary ceramic artists alongside historical pieces by Tamborine Mountain's pioneering women potters. Each work is created using clay sourced directly from the Mountain's volcanic soil, creating a powerful connection between place, material and maker.

Goldi was engaged to develop the exhibition identity, drawing inspiration from the geography of Tamborine Mountain itself. Topographic lines became the foundation of the visual language, representing layers within the landscape, the artwork and the stories of the artists across generations.

Our involvement extended beyond the exhibition branding to include the printed invitation, illustrated catalogue and education resource, helping create a cohesive experience for audiences engaging with the exhibition.

It's always rewarding to see an exhibition continue to connect with new audiences as it travels, sharing stories of resilience, creativity and community through the enduring language of clay.

If you're in the region, be sure to visit Shifting Ground at The Condensery before it moves.

Great to hear that the Palm Beach Aquatic and Community Centre has been named Building of the Year at the 2026 Australian Institute of Architects Gold Coast and Northern Rivers Regional Architecture Awards.

A huge congratulations to the talented teams at Liquid Blu and Cox Architecture on this well-deserved recognition, along with everyone involved in bringing this outstanding community facility to life.

Goldi was fortunate to work alongside these great architects from the schematic design phase, developing the wayfinding and signage strategy for the project. Working closely with the design team, City of Gold Coast, asset custodians and delivery team, we helped create a wayfinding system that supports accessibility, movement and ease of navigation throughout the facility.

Projects like this are a reminder of what can be achieved through strong collaboration and a shared commitment to creating places that are welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable for all.

Congratulations again to Liquid Blu, Cox Architecture and the entire project team.

Where you work has such an impact on your day.

We love the light filled space we work in and how we can soak up the sun over lunch.

The idea of a shopfront and a bright, calm and cretaive space once seemed like a distant dream…. But here we are enjoying it everyday.

Our Creative Director Angela Golding started her career in a typography studio, learning from former advertising agency typographers who understood every nuance and detail of the craft. As such, typography has always been deeply embedded in the way we design at Goldi.

In exhibitions and signage, typography does a lot of the heavy lifting. It guides people through spaces, shapes understanding, creates hierarchy and influences how information is experienced.

Good typography often goes unnoticed and that’s usually the point.

It’s the spacing, alignment, scale, rhythm and restraint that create clarity and consistency across a project.

Most people won’t consciously notice the finer details, but they absolutely feel the difference in the final outcome.

It’s a craft we continue to value and refine every day in the studio.

Good design isn’t about walking into a room and pretending to have all the answers. Yes, clients engage designers for expertise, ideas and creative thinking, but the best outcomes happen when the process is open, collaborative and built on trust.

“You have to bring something to the client… but it’s not about imposing yourself... it's about working with them, listening, sharing perspectives and shaping ideas together, rather than acting like the expert who knows everything.”

The strongest projects are rarely driven by ego.

They come from collaboration, conversation and a willingness to explore different perspectives together.

Ever walked straight past a sign even though it was “right there”?

It's more often than not a contrast problem.

In wayfinding, colour selection isn’t just about aesthetics. A sign can look beautiful in a design presentation but completely fail once it’s installed in the real world.

Gloss finishes create glare.
Lighting changes everything.
Colours that looked distinct on screen suddenly blend together.
And sometimes the contrast simply isn’t high enough for people to read comfortably.

This is where LRV (Light Reflectance Value) contrast comes in. Signage needs a minimum contrast difference to improve readability and accessibility, particularly for people with low vision.

But good wayfinding isn’t about ticking a compliance box.

It’s about understanding how people move through a space, what they notice, what they miss, and how materials, lighting and finishes all work together in the built environment.

Because if people can’t confidently navigate a space, the signage hasn’t done its job, no matter how good it looks.

It’s one of those details most people never think about… until it doesn’t work.
