Ottawa, October 22,2024: Black Community Leaders Across Canada Held a Press Conference to Speak to the Media at Parliament Hill, After Meeting with Political Leaders in Ottawa.

The objective of the meeting was to call for Sustained Funding for several non-profit organizations working to foster economic development in Black Canadian communities.

The coalition is calling on the federal government to commit to sustaining investments in three programs: the Black Entrepreneurship Program, the Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative, and the Black-Led Philanthropic Endowment Fund.

The community leaders present at the press conference include:
1. Sam Juru. Executive Director of Africa Centre, representing Western Canada.
2. Liban Abokor. Co-CEO FFBC.
3. Matthew Martel. CEO Black Business Initiative.
4. Dr. Gerald Grant, Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub.
5. Tiffany Callender, CEO of FACE.
6. Louis-Edgar Jean-Francois. CEO of Groupe 3737.
7. Antony Grey. Board Chair of Tropicana Community Services

As part of their activities for Edmonton Start-up week, the African Centre in Edmonton organized a focused workshop and social mixer on 17th October 2024,for black entrepreneurs, aimed at helping small start-ups leverage available resources for business growth.

The event attracted entrepreneurs, start-ups, financial institutions, and service providers for a day of learning, networking, and interactive discussions.
The workshop also featured hands-on interactive sessions, where participants were guided through financial planning and marketing strategies.

The event concluded with positive feedback, with many attendees expressing confidence in applying the knowledge gained. African Center continues to play a vital role in supporting Edmonton’s small business community.

The museum is dedicated to preserving and promoting Somali traditions, language, and creative expression.
The museum is currently housed at the Aflah Academy on 11610 38 Street in Edmonton.
