Privacy shouldn’t quietly disappear from the technology we rely on every day.

Encryption ensures that only the people in a conversation can read the messages — not even the platform itself. Reports suggest Meta Platforms plans to stop supporting end-to-end encryption for messages on Instagram as early as May 8, 2026.

From the Ethical Digital perspective, privacy should be a default feature of the internet, not an optional one.

We’re encouraged to see the Mozilla Foundation calling for the protection of encrypted messaging — and reminding us that public pressure can shape better technology decisions.
