I don’t work in sport because I was the best athlete.

I work in sport because I’ve always loved what it represents.

The graft.
The setbacks.
The pressure.
The obsession.
The moments nobody sees before the result.

Growing up, I always wanted to be part of sport, but I was never good enough to play at a serious level. For years, it felt like an industry I could only watch from the outside.

Then I started creating.

Logos for grassroots clubs.
Kit designs.
Social graphics.
Content.
Stories.

And slowly, I found my way in.

Not as the athlete.

But as the person helping athletes, clubs, gyms and sports brands show people what their journey really looks like.

That’s what The OG Studio is built around.

With everyone in the Southend world talking about Kevin Maher right now, it felt like the right time to revisit one of the projects I’ll always be proud of.

For Kev’s testimonial, I worked on the logo, brand identity, kit design alongside SX Sports, marketing assets and the reveal video.

As a Southend fan, this one meant more than just another creative project.

Kev is one of those people who represents a proper era of the club. A player so many of us grew up watching, then someone who came back and helped reconnect a fanbase during one of the hardest periods in the club’s history.

So when it came to the testimonial, the aim was simple.

Make it feel right.

Respectful, nostalgic, professional and connected to the people who understood what Kev meant to Southend.

Some projects are about the work.

Some are about the feeling behind them.

This was definitely both.

Yesterday wasn’t just about Southend United winning the FA Trophy.

It was bigger than that.

For years, the story around this club has been survival. Uncertainty, setbacks, losing Football League status and a fanbase that kept showing up when it would have been easier to walk away.

That will always be part of the club’s history.

But it cannot be the club’s identity forever.

Southend shouldn’t just be known as the club that survived.

It should be known as the club that came through it, rebuilt, and started moving forward again.

The trophy gave us the headline.

But the journey is what gave it meaning.

And that’s the bigger lesson for clubs, athletes and sports brands. Don’t wait until the big moment to start telling the story. Build the narrative while it’s happening.

Southend’s survival chapter belongs to the past.

Now the future has to be about ambition, belief, momentum and identity.

This shouldn’t be the end of the story.

It should be the start of the next one.

Another day on the range, capturing the swings that tell the real story.

No filters. No fake poses. Just golfers trying to get better – one strike at a time.

I’m finding more and more that golf content isn’t about the “perfect swing”, it’s about the journey behind it. The grind, the tempo changes, the small wins that only golfers notice.
