Abuja took the government, but Lagos kept the wealth. 🇳🇬💰
In 1991, Nigeria officially moved its political capital to Abuja. But over 30 years later, Lagos still drives over 30% of the country's GDP and handles 70%+ of its international trade. Why?
1️⃣ Geography is Destiny: Lagos sits on the Gulf of Guinea with deepwater sea ports and major international hubs natural gateways Abuja can't replicate.
2️⃣ Network Effects: The banks, tech hubs, corporate headquarters, and entertainment industries were already deeply rooted. Relocating civil servants didn't move the private sector.
3️⃣ Agility Over Politics: Unburdened by federal administrative overhead, Lagos evolved into Africa's premier financial and cultural powerhouse.
Political power shifted, but economic gravity stayed put. 🌍📈
