Social media tends to take a backseat over the holiday period when we're all out enjoying family time, time with friends, and the sun!!!

Whether you're a business owner or a social media guru, it's important to get the prep done early to ensure YOU get to enjoy some device-free downtime, without having to worry about your socials falling flat.

I've seen "social media SEO" mentioned a lot lately. Its not as complicated as it might sound and is very simple to implement for high-impact visibility.

Essentially it means customizing your social media profiles using relevant key-words in captions, descriptions, alt text and About sections. This is going to help search engines understand what your profile is about, which increases the chances of your profiles and/or content appearing in search results when someone looks for keywords related to your business or brand.

The engagement levels of your content also plays a part here, with search engines being able to gauge the popularity of your content based on likes, shares etc. This gives search engines a signal as to whether your content is valuable and worth showing to others searching for the same or similar topics.

Another interesting stat that I recently read said that Gen Z'ers use social media as a search engine, solidifying the need to optimize your profiles using keywords!

That you posting a months worth of content on your neglected social pages in a day? πŸ‘€...
That actually is me right now haha BUT, we can't be perfect and ultra-organized 100% of the time. I don't know many SMM's that have a lot of time for their own pages!

However, the age-old saying is clichΓ©, but unfortunately true. Failing to plan is planning to fail.

Strategic planning really is the backbone of success when it comes to keeping your online presence alive. From content calendars to campaign strategies, every detail counts. Bringing ideas to life isn't easy. If you want to be efficient, you have to have solid planning, it's that simple.

(1) Before any content planning can begin, you need to know your buyer personas/ideal customer. You need to know what they are interested in, and what their pain points are so that you can create content to target them. This is *important*

(2) Create a plan - seeing as you already know what your ideal customer wants to see, you can now create a calendar and jot down ideas around the type of content you want to create.

(3) All out of ideas? you can find inspiration everywhere online - use relevant hashtag searches, ask ChatGPT. There is also a great tool called Answer The Public, which spits out highly searched topics related to your search input.

(4) Viral is cool, but it isn't the goal. You want to attract a highly engaged audience that is going to convert.

(5) Create content a month or more in advance. A solid planning session is going to make this easily achievable.

It turns out NOT! Ok this is something I have 100% overthought in the past, and don't get me wrong, I'm not saying go out and take photos on a cardboard pin-hole camera 🫠

BUT... Marketing extraordinaire Neil Patel recently made a post addressing this, and his team actually conducted a small-ish scale study, and came up with some very interesting results: out of 100,000 photos they examined on social media, professionally shot photos had 20.8% fewer likes and 35.1 fewer comments. Of course there were outliers such a pregnancy, engagement, and wedding style photos, but overall, professional photography = less engagement.

I'm on the fence about this little piece of information, because I personally love seeing professional photos, but I think it comes down to being relatable instead of perfectly curated, and obviously there are certain businesses where this isn't going to apply.

Thoughts?
