Fuel Media Ltd

Fuel Media Ltd Creative design solutions for brands that aspire to succeed. The odd, the out of place, and the unusual. And innovation is our calling card.

As a Creative Director and Brand Consultant my purpose is to help professional individuals and businesses showcase who they are and what they want to be known for. To support my passion for brand consulting I have established and matured Fuel Media, my boutique design company that allows me to offer selected clients a full creative experience to develop their identity, positioning and communicatio

ns, on and offline. The aesthetically pleasing, the balanced and the beautiful. I know that such disparities can sing when used in the service of great design. I believe that a well-rounded and successful designer will create the perfect outcome (“beautiful” or not) for any given brief. At Fuel Media we take the road less travelled, our artwork punches holes in the expected. We’ll take any client brief and develop an outcome that challenges the status quo. In a world that’s saturated with brand messages, you need this sort of innovation. We offer a genuine alternative from the large agencies. We believe in a personal/professional approach, and we take time to listen and create lasting relationships. At Fuel Media you deal directly with our team. If you have an issue, they’ll be there to sort it. There’s no BS, no passing the buck, no bureaucracy. I started Fuel Media alone and learned to treat each client as the most important client. My company has grown and we now have a skilled team, but this underlying ethos will never change.

⚓ Fuel Impact now calculates boat fuel too ⚓

I built Fuel Impact because vague stress about fuel prices is always worse than a specific number. Once you know what it's actually costing you, it stops being this overwhelming thing and becomes something you can plan around. That's the whole point - planning beats panicking.

Pick your fuel type, enter your tank size and consumption (or choose from a list of engines if you don't know yours), tell it how long you're typically out on the water, and it breaks down exactly what the fuel crisis is costing you. Cost to fill. Cost per hour. Cost per trip. Monthly. And... what a full boating season looks like at today's prices versus before!

It also checks whether you've got enough fuel for your trip. A friend who works with the Coastguard told me a good portion of call-outs are for people running out of fuel. So the calculator flags it if your trip burns more than your tank holds, or if you'll be cutting it fine - and shows you the maths so you can plan before you launch.

Free. No sign-up. 30 seconds.

The new Fuel Impact desktop dashboard is proving popular with desktop usage up 12% on yesterday, usage is up 35% overall... and the anonymous poll data is now feeding through to NZ economists studying how the crisis is changing our behaviour.

Newest feature: a trip calculator. Pick your car, enter a distance, and see exactly what that drive will cost you at today's prices (thanks to my chief product testers Sam and Nelly).

Haven't tried it yet? 30 seconds. Find your car. Get your number.

Are you eligible for the Government's $50/week fuel support? More importantly - does it actually cover your increased costs at the pump?

🆕 I've added a new feature on fuelimpact.nz

You can now check your likely eligibility for the In-Work Tax Credit boost and see exactly how it stacks up against what you're really paying at the pump.

For some families, the $50 covers the lot. For others, there's still a gap. Either way... you'll know your number.

Eligibility results are a guide only - confirm at ird.govt.nz. NZ households only.

Last night I was lying in bed scrolling through fuel price posts and I realised they all revolve around panic and confusion. Gaspy screenshots, people venting, news articles about $4 a litre. But nobody was offering a way to understand what it actually means specifically for your wallet. Not the price per litre. Not the national average. YOUR number. What this crisis is costing your household in real dollars.

So I built it.

From the idea as I got into bed, to the thing being live before I finished my coffee early this morning.

It's called Fuel Impact. You find your car (there are 450+ popular NZ vehicles in there), enter how far you drive each week, and it shows you exactly what the price jump is costing you. Per week. Per month. Per year. Plus some practical ways to offset the difference.

I built it because I've learned that vague stress is always worse than a specific number. The moment you can see what something is actually costing you, it stops being this overwhelming thing and becomes something you can plan around.

Planning beats panicking. Every time.

It's free. I'm still refining it in real time based on feedback so if something doesn't work, let me know. If your vehicle isn't there yet you can manually input your fuel efficiency.

If you think it's cool and/or useful, please share it around.

Infolog has been a client since 2015. This is the second full website build, following the original site I designed as they were scaling their information services platform for government and corporate clients.

Infolog operates at the intersection of data management, compliance, and decision-support. Their product, the Infolog Information Hub, is a centralised platform built in collaboration with major government agencies and developed to meet strict privacy, audit, and procurement requirements. The challenge with their web presence has always been the same: making something complex feel clear and credible without dumbing it down.

Beyond the website, I support Infolog with layout design for internal and brand-facing documents and UI work on their digital product.

Most businesses start with a logo... colours, fonts, stuff that looks good on a business card. That's not a brand, it's an outfit.

Your brand is the stuff underneith. It's why you started, it's what you stand for, it's how you talk, who you're for, and what you never compromise on.

A logo without that foundation is simply decoration. It might look awesome... but it won't mean anything.

The businesses that feel consistent, clear and confident didn't start with just visuals - they started with the strategy.

Imagine a stranger at a BBQ - they ask what your business does. If you can't explain it in a couple sentences without using buzzwords or sounding like your website - your brand lacks a foundation.

The logo comes after in my opinion! The website comes after... the design and development only works when it's built on something real.

Eat What You Kill is a community-driven lifestyle brand that bridges wild food, adventure, and wellbeing. Built from the ground up, the brand blends storytelling, sustainability, and mental health into a unique social initiative with a far reach. From strategy, to content and ex*****on... I led the end-to-end development of EWYK, crafting the brand’s strategy, designing and developing the website, producing original photography and creating original recipes, and shaping its social presence and marketing. The result is a bold, purpose-led platform that connects hunters, foragers, and fishermen/women through shared values of resilience, community, and self-reliance.

One of the most valuable outcomes of my brand strategy workshops is simple... but incredibly powerful.

It's a list of 'this, not that' statements for your brand.

Examples:

✅ We focus on long-term impact, not short-term wins.
✅ We collaborate with clients, not lecture them.
✅ We give truthful guidance, not empty promises.
✅ We invest in quality, not cheap shortcuts.
✅ We build trust, not buzz.

Each statement is a decision. It draws a line in the sand and says 'this is how we operate, and this is what we refuse to do.'

Differentiation doesn't come from what you say you are. It comes from what you're willing to say you're not.

Try it. Write five statements for your brand. If you struggle, that's a sign you haven't defined your positioning yet.

ChamberWorks - Brand Identity & Website.

Workforce development platform - NZ Chambers of Commerce & MSD.

ChamberWorks is a partnership between the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce and the Ministry of Social Development, connecting businesses with pre-screened candidates and free upskilling tools. Two big organisations, one shared goal... help NZ businesses hire better and build stronger teams.

I built the brand identity and designed the full website. The challenge was making something that felt accessible to a small business owner in Whangarei and a large employer in Auckland at the same time. It needed to be clear, practical, and trustworthy - no friction. Just a straightforward path to finding talent, upskilling a team, or accessing the resources available to them.

The design keeps things simple, clean, practical, and easy to navigate. No clutter, just a clear path to the tools and support businesses are looking for.

- Brand Identity & Website

Psychology & mental health services - Auckland, NZ

Mind Garage, founded by Clinical Psychologist Ampara Bouwens, is a team of qualified therapists and psychologists helping people navigate life's challenges and find their way back to themselves. They needed a brand identity and website that felt approachable and professional... not clinical, not cold. The kind of place you'd actually feel comfortable reaching out to.

I built the brand from the ground up, identity, visual language, and a full WordPress website designed to make that first step feel easier. Mental health is a space where trust matters more than anything, so the design had to feel warm, grounded, and human. Clean enough to communicate professionalism, but with enough warmth that it doesn't feel like a waiting room.

The website was structured around removing friction, making it simple for someone to understand what Mind Garage offers, connect with the right therapist, and take action. When someone's at the point of reaching out for help, the last thing they need is a confusing website getting in the way.
