A few years ago, Jonny was just getting started on his own.

Today, he’s built a steady flow of leads and clients through The Lead Guy’s systems with instant lead notifications and jobs coming directly through the website.

The Lead Guy brought the opportunities.
Jonny built the momentum.

Great to see him at Leider Group doing well.

"We got ripped off by a marketing agency. $50/day, got ONE call."
That's what my concrete client told me before we started working together.

3 years later, we're still working together.

What changed?

I didn't charge him upfront.
I said: "Let me prove I can get you leads first. If it doesn't work, you don't pay."

Here's what we did:
✅ Built a simple landing page (concrete Auckland)
✅ Targeted high-intent keywords (concrete contractor near me, concrete layers Auckland)
✅ Made sure the landing page had a form + phone number

Leads started coming through immediately.
The problem before wasn't Google Ads.
It was HOW they were being run.

Biggest mistakes I see:
❌ Terrible landing pages
❌ Sending people to generic pages (not what they searched for)
❌ No clear way to contact you (no form, no phone number)

Here's the rule:
If someone searches "deck build," they go to a DECK BUILD page.
Not your homepage.
Not a general "services" page.
The exact thing they searched for.

You're a tradesman. You don't need to learn Google Ads.
You need to be on site making sure work gets done and following up on leads.

We do a trial. We get the leads. You answer the phone and take site visits.
If we close a job, we work together on an ongoing basis.

This is what happens when you go from hoping for leads to having a SYSTEM.

My concrete client in Auckland:

6 months ago:

● Pen and paper tracking
● Handful of leads a month
● One-man operation
● Stressed about the next job

Today:

▸ 20-30 leads/month
▸ Automated lead management
▸ Booked out weeks ahead
▸ Landing big contracts

What we did:

Researched what people search for → "epoxy flooring contractors Auckland"

Built a simple landing page → Brand + form + phone number

Launched Google Ads + Facebook Ads → Leads started coming immediately

Now the business has completely transformed:

✅ Marketing and sales running like clockwork
✅ Phones ringing consistently
✅ Team on site doing the work
✅ Pipeline solid for weeks/months

When leads come in steady, everything changes…

You hire confidently. You price what you're worth. You stop living week-to-week.

That's the difference between a job and a business.

An Auckland asbestos removal company was getting 3 to 5 leads a month.

✖️ Basic website. Instagram page. No real system behind them.

✔️✔️ Month two with us, 55 leads in a single month. All from Google.

Jobs closed include a $70k asbestos roof removal, a $330k full house removal, and a pipeline full of quotes still being worked through.

Here's exactly what we did:

1. We split the campaign into two separate landing pages - one for asbestos testing, one for removal.

Because people searching for each are in a completely different mindset and they need to land on a page that speaks directly to what they're looking for.

That's how we consistently hit a 10 to 20% conversion rate.

2. On the Google Ads side we went straight for bottom of funnel keywords.

The searches people make when they've already decided they need the job done and they're just choosing who to trust.

No awareness keywords. No education keywords. Buyers only.

3. The ad copy matched that intent exactly, trusted Auckland asbestos removal, licensed and accredited team, free quote within 24 hours.

4. And the landing pages did the rest. Form at the top. Phone number prominent. Google review badge for credibility. Copy written to spark action from someone who's already ready to move.

🎯 From 3 leads a month to 55 in 60 days.

You can't scale a roofing business without systems.

If you're:
• Picking up the phone "when it suits you"
• Sending one-line-item quotes
• Have no online presence
• Relying on big contracts to keep coming through

You're not going to scale.

Here's what you actually need if you want to scale:
✅ Fast lead response times
✅ Solid quote process (no one-liners)
✅ Strong follow-up system
✅ Online presence (website, socials, Google listing)

One of our roofers in Hamilton went from $20K → $100K/month by dialing this in.

50 leads/month → CRM system → Sales team handles qualification → Director shows up to qualified site visits only

It's not easy at first.
But it's worth it.

8 months ago: Quoting paving jobs after his 9-to-5
Today: Full-time business owner, 20-40 leads/month

Here’s what got him there…

We built a system:
1. Landing page → Matched search intent (artificial grass Auckland = artificial grass landing page)
2. Google Map listing → Added reviews for credibility
3. Fast response → Called leads within 30 minutes to qualify
4. Professional quotes → Used Quotient software with broken-down costs, reviews, and finished images

✔ He converted 15% of website visitors and closed 30% of quotes.

🎯 Predictable leads + strong sales process resulted in him scaling the biz to the point where he could quit his job.

My Story:

I didn't start in marketing.

Before that I was working at an excavation company doing grading, driving the roller and compacting KAP40.

It was solid work but winter could be brutal and I knew I didn’t want to keep turning up at 9am forever on someone else’s schedule walking in mud.

I moved into corporate marketing and spent about five years learning it properly.

After work and on weekends I was always tinkering around with a few local builders’ websites and somehow getting some decent leads.

During that time I realised marketing could be the way to build my own business without having to clock in at a fixed time.

I worked across different industries including marketing for Lumino Dental which is New Zealand’s largest dental group aswell as Sime Darby who distribute, BMW, Porsche and Ferrari.

About three years ago I went full time on my own business and focused on lead generation for trades.

My background as a tradie means I understand how the industry actually works and that experience feeds directly into better results for my clients.

I like to keep things simple and honest.

Trades just want their phone to ring so that is exactly what I focus on.

No fluff, no "wait until next month for leads", no smoke and mirrors just results.

Gotta spend money to make money.

Sort your leads out then solve the next problem.

Don’t forget the best time to build out the pipeline is when you’ve already got one!

03/04/2026

Most tradies are running Facebook ads wondering why leads don't close.

The problem isn't your follow-up… it's the intent behind the lead.

● Google catches people already looking.
● Facebook interrupts people who weren't.

Five things you need to do right now to build a predictable lead system:

1. Build an online presence (website)
2. Get reviews
3. Follow-up with your leads fast
4. Get your processes on paper
5. Track your numbers

If you're not doing these, you're flying blind.
