The Design Conference has evolved!

In collaboration with Studio South, a new identity has emerged, one that reflects who TDC is today and where it’s heading next. Inspired by themes of self-reflection, awakening and transformation, the brand captures both the spirit of the conference and the experience it promises its audience.

See the new identity come to life at this year’s conference, taking place 1–3 July at Brisbane Powerhouse.

We’re proud to be working alongside Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, developing the brand for Te Punga – their newest and thoughtfully designed residential development in Mt Albert, Tāmaki Makaurau.

Te Punga means ‘the anchor’, symbolising grounding, stability, and connection. Anchored in waka journeys, Te Punga celebrates the area’s history as a key portage, connecting the south, west, and east. In a modern context, Te Punga sits at the heart of this proud community, close to some of Auckland’s most popular amenities.

This narrative shapes the visual language and essence of the brand across every touchpoint. To register your interest in the development, stay tuned for the launch in the coming months.

.lastlaugh.akl 🐠 is Auckland’s freshest waterfront restaurant. They deliver an elevated offering with a casual approach. South worked closely with the owners from the get-go to create a brand that felt clean and modern without taking itself too seriously.

A ripple flows through the logotype, giving it the impression of a flag or a wave. Playful seaside illustrations add some charm to the brand. A simple, nautical-inspired colour palette works harmoniously with the space. Overall, the brand works helps make such an elegant space feel warm and welcoming for all.

Savory is one of New Zealand’s longest-established construction companies, built on decades of trust, craft, and people who simply get the job done. Over time, however, their brand no longer reflected the true scale, capability, or culture of the business.

The rebrand brings Savory’s identity back into alignment with who they are today: grounded, progressive, and proudly hands-on. It places their people at the centre of the story, celebrating the collective effort behind every build and the belief that no matter the role, everyone gets their hands dirty.

The visual identity is bold and purposeful. A strong, structural logo draws direct inspiration from the steel diamond-plate commonly found underfoot on construction sites, symbolising strength and unity. This form expands into a dynamic pattern and visual language that represents the team as a whole - many parts working together as one. Robust, functional typography ensures the brand works hard in real-world applications, supported by a palette drawn from the construction landscape, combining grounded neutrals with high-visibility yellow to signal confidence, progress, and momentum.

The result is a brand that feels human, credible, and built to last, an honest expression of Savory today and the future they’re building.

The Stables is a New York–inspired apartment and retail development in Epsom, located adjacent to Cornwall Park and marking the first large-scale mixed-use project within the Parkview Precinct.

Drawing its name from the historic raceway stables once located on site, South developed a strategic brand identity grounded in architectural response and contextual heritage. The visual system is informed by the building’s form, particularly the repetition of arched apertures, which establishes a sense of rhythm and permanence. A bespoke S motif, derived from the geometry of a horseshoe, functions as a generative device — scaling into pattern language and supporting a cohesive visual hierarchy across touchpoints.

Lifestyle illustration, locally grounded content, and art-directed renders are integrated with structured narrative and considered copy. Together, these elements form a brand system that balances expression and restraint, reinforcing the development’s architectural intent while positioning it as a considered and contemporary addition to its neighbourhood.

Lendr is a new fintech brand redefining non-bank residential lending: fast, flexible and frictionless. The identity is anchored by a logo that playfully transforms the capital ‘L’ into a lowercase ‘r’. When rotated, the ‘r’ becomes a tick, a universal symbol of approval, setting the foundation for a distinctive and responsive graphic language. This visual system expands into a world of modular, fluctuating cubes that ebb and flow, abstractly representing flexibility, adaptability and Lendr’s dynamic approach to finance.
