We’re stoked to announce we’ve been selected to have the honour of creating one of the stories that will feature in the Loading Docs 10th Anniversary collection. A story of activism, decolonisation, and whakapapa, all on a backdrop of competitive tree climbing. Zane Wedding of Ngāti Kuri and Ngāti Pikiao, has been a relentless defender of ngā rākau and advocate against social injustices. A master arborist, he once occupied a Puriri tree for 100 days to prevent the destruction of native trees. Now, standing at the brink of destiny, balancing the pursuit of a world title with the pressing need to protect his heritage and environment.
The story is unfolding in real time as Gaza collapses, environmental catastrophe looms, Te Tiriti is under attack, and Destiny Church continues to provoke - all while the Auckland Tree Climbing champs are just a week away. Zane has a lot on his plate to say the least.
As the media landscape in Aotearoa takes hit after hit, it’s more vital than ever that these types of stories continue to be told.
