Since then it has run in , appeared as top story across the network (ChannelLife, eCommerceNews, IT Brief, SecurityBrief), been picked up by to feature in their Fusion newsletter, been reshared by clients, emailed out to multiple business association member networks, and landed in front of thousands of NZ business owners.

The story: review gating is the software-led practice of pushing happy customers toward public reviews while routing unhappy ones into private feedback forms. It’s a growing legal risk under the Fair Trading Act, and most businesses using the software have no idea they’re exposed.

If you’re using software that filters unhappy customers away from your Google review link, you’re likely in breach of both Google’s policies and the Fair Trading Act. The Commerce Commission is already prosecuting.
