Testing matters!

With the new printer and a reliable way to print engineering grade materials, the first practical use case was adapters for the new oven rack. Needing to replace the stock wheels with high temp ones meant a different mounting method.

Testing 3 different filaments, even ones with a higher heat deflection temp showed more distortion under small load. Multiple tests were done, then the design was beefed up, we went through the annealing process, and now have 3D printed wheel mounts that have withstood multiple oven cycles.

For the first example, this setup means we can go from 60 hung parts with a lot more labor, to 240 parts per cycle in the oven.

And now we have much more real life data to help clients properly decide on designs and filaments.

We have hit capacity on our couple printers more and more often. So we added another! From a 10 cubic inch to 13 cubic inch. 220% total build volume and lots of little improvements.

We can now print more parts, larger parts, and print with more consistency on engineering grade filaments (practical examples coming soon).

We already put a quick fun test print through, and are now printing some important functional parts for the shop that will improve our throughput for Cerakote operations.

Very proud of how this one turned out.

This custom sign was a referral from a past client, which always means a lot. Even better, it now has a home inside a beautiful business in an incredible historic building.

Projects like this are a big part of why I enjoy what I do. Getting the opportunity to create something completely unique, built specifically for a space and a business, is hard to beat.

It’s especially rewarding when the work is for people who have built their own business around helping others.

Here is a couple of the assemblies we have worked with a client on for products they are bringing to market.

CAD, blueprints, assembly fit check, flat patterns, etc., for every single component.

Designing for manufacturing, managing all tolerances for fit, function, and fabrication methods, joints and motion simulation to ensure proper fit and movement, etc.

The range of work and being part of projects whether initial concept, early design stages and iterations, quick prototypes, or end use, and fabricating many products ourselves, means we maintain an understanding of the full process and can help reduce iteration cycles, ensure an efficient fabrication process, and provide proper suggestions and solutions along the way.

What an exciting day at the shop. The first batch of parts are out for our first ever production run.

It never gets old seeing this table just cut through like butter and hold .001" accuracy over and over day after day.

These are the top and bottom of Mezuzahs, which there will be plenty of awesome features added in by the client for the final product. Two-Point Precision did the processing of the stock, CNC cutting, routing the top edges, sanding, laser work, and finishing coat. We also printed a few components that will be used as part of the final product that we will show once the client is ready for launch.

Aspects of production can seem tedious when there's 50 of this step, 200 of these to do, 500 of that, but it also is an awesome challenge to dial in a process. Be efficient. See how we can push the speeds without exceeding our workholding or sacrificing finish. What tool selection and workholding provides the best results. There's a lot of learning that comes with doing these types of projects, especially being out first time working with Olivewood, which sits about twice as hard as oak, maple, or walnut.

Things never slow down here!

Lots of projects going on for clients, but as we take on more and more work, that also comes with larger quantities and batch work with production runs on the horizon.

This little starter exhaust system barely moved the air. Mask or not, the larger spray volumes pose a mess, hazard, and smell, no one wants in their shop.

The small window unit was removed, along with the entire window, making room for two much more appropriate, powerful, and adjustable, exhaust fans. A plenum was built allowing for much more efficient airflow and consistency as filters slowly fill up and a larger filter area.

Custom clamps were designed and printed that allow a quick install for spray filters, as well as quickly pulling them out and sliding in a panel with furnace filters for when powder coating.

Overengineered.... maybe. But it provides a cleaner, healthier, and more efficient workflow.

Now back to the various spray jobs in queue!

What an exciting day! 260 pieces of absolutely gorgeous Olivewood was delivered today. The final steps are being taken to prep for an awesome production run of a unique and beautiful project.

Not sure if I enjoy the gorgeous visuals or the fact that it adds a wonderful smell to the shop upon unboxing better!

3D scanning isn't just for complex reverse engineering projects. Here's a perfect example of getting creative with the tools at our disposal.

A great friend of ours enjoys painting small figures for local craft shows. Previously using generic files, our friend's brother is actually a great sculpture and created several small clay models. We were able to scan and recreate these models with high precision. Allowing the ability to scale the size, edit if needed, and mass produce them. Meaning our friend had a much more personal series of models to work with.

Other examples of uses for our 3D scanning we have done: recreating a guitar body, designing around vehicle frames for mounting brush guards and hitches, tool layout and organization, recreating custom trim, corbels, and rosettes, designing molds, and many more.
