Ranking #1 Yet AI Ignores You

You rank on Google.

You paid for SEO.

Your traffic looks fine.

Yet ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overview skip your site.

Over 60% of U.S. searches now show AI Overview results.

If your page does not get cited, you lose visibility before a click even happens.

Here’s why AI skips most business websites:

❌ Your page opens with a tagline instead of a service description
❌ The answer sits in paragraph three or four
❌ Multiple services share one page
❌ Headings talk about your firm, not the buyer’s problem
❌ Location and industry details hide in the footer

AI systems do not browse.

They extract.

They look for:

✅ A plain statement of what you do
✅ Who you serve
✅ What problem you solve
✅ Clear structure with focused headings

Ahrefs found 76% of AI citations come from pages already ranking in the top 10.

Ranking still matters.

Structure decides who gets quoted.

Seer Interactive reports pages cited in AI Overview see over 80% higher click-through rates.

Small structural shifts drive real traffic gains.

Here’s a simple example.

Vague opening:
“Helping businesses grow since 2004.”

Clear opening:
“We provide SEO and paid search management for Atlanta law firms.”

The second sentence gives service, audience, channel, and location in one line.

AI reads that and understands your page.

Review your top service pages.

Lead with a direct description.

Move brand language lower.

Give each service its own page.

Answer the main question in the first paragraph.

Ask yourself:

If an AI scanned this page for 10 seconds, would it know exactly what you offer and who you serve?

If not, your competitors will take the citation.

Stop letting perfect get in the way of good enough.

If you are working on something and you are 90% of the way there, stop waiting for the other 10% that might come only after you put it in the public anyway.

A few weeks ago, I raised my hand to participate in a Build-A-Thon.

It started on Friday.

What I've faced so far:

- Blank screens
- Bugs I did not expect
- Features I had to cut
- Doubt about whether I would finish

Getting to a functioning MVP sounds simple.

It is not.

You question your idea.
You question your skills.
You question your pace.

But you keep going.

Because progress beats perfection.

This Build-A-Thon pushed me harder than I planned.

The process felt daunting.
The result feels rewarding.

I now have:

- A working product
- Real feedback to gather
- Clear next steps
- Proof I can execute

I'm glad I didn't wait for the right time.
Cause Life can be life-ing.

Yesterday, I crossed the line from idea to ex*****on.

Now the real work starts.

I will keep you posted on the progress.

Lesson #1 from 30+ Years of WSI: Vision Starts Before the World Is Ready

In 1995, the internet was still a curiosity for most businesses.

But WSI founder Dan Monaghan saw the potential of a connected world long before it became mainstream. There were no proven models or playbooks. Just belief in what the internet could become for businesses everywhere.

As Dan put it: “We weren’t following a trend. We were building something we believed in.”

Thirty years later, that same mindset still drives how we help businesses grow.

What opportunities do you see today that others might be overlooking?

Networking isn't Awful.

I used to leave networking events frustrated.

No leads.

No sales.

No “results.”

If a conversation did not turn into business, I saw it as wasted time.

Then I changed one goal.

I stopped trying to turn conversations into transactions.

I started focusing on connection.

Everything shifted.

Here’s what I do now:

🤝 Meet people who interest me
👂 Ask what they are building
💡 Look for ways to help
📅 Book 2–3 lunch meetings before I leave

That’s it.

No pitch.

No pressure.

No mental math about ROI during the chat.

When you remove the need for an instant deal:

• Conversations feel natural
• You listen more
• People open up
• You stand out

Most people walk into a room thinking, “Who can buy from me?”

Walk in thinking, “Who can I know?”

Business grows from relationships.

Not from rushed exchanges over warm drinks.

Not every conversation leads to revenue.

That is not the point.

Meet enough people.

Build enough trust.

The deals follow.

Next time you attend an event, ask yourself:

Are you hunting transactions?

Or building relationships?

LinkedIn keeps growing, but the headline number doesn’t tell the full story.

Social Media Today reports LinkedIn has 1.3 billion members, but estimates active users may be closer to 450 million based on EU reporting.

What to focus on instead:
• Track performance by leads and pipeline, not member count
• Use video, as LinkedIn saw 30% growth in video ads last quarter
• Post around real buyer questions, then measure clicks and replies

ChatGPT Ads Change Visibility Forever

Most businesses think visibility starts on Google. The reality is that it now starts in a conversation.

OpenAI announced ads are coming to ChatGPT’s free tier and $8 per month Go plan.

Here’s why this matters to you:

🔎 Buyers look for answers to their problems in ChatGPT before they search
🧠 AI summarizes your business before anyone visits your site
💬 Ads appear next to answers when users ask about solutions
📍 Visibility moves to the earliest stage of decision-making
📊 Organic and paid placement now sit side by side

What you should know:

ChatGPT has launched Go in 171 countries.

Ads will appear at the bottom of relevant answers.

They will be clearly labeled.

They will not influence responses.

User conversations are not sold.

This is not banner ads on a website.

This is exposure at the exact moment someone says:

“I need help with…”

Try This:

Open a ChatGPT conversation and ask:
What does [my company do]
Who are my competitors?
What advantages do I have?

Didn't get the answer you wanted?
Leadership teams need to focus on three things:

✅ Define what you do in simple language
✅ Align messaging across every channel
✅ State clearly who you serve and who you don’t

Remember this: There are winners and losers in every market.
