As we head into the holiday weekend, the team at Mainland is taking a moment to look ahead to Monday and the true purpose of Memorial Day: honoring the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, a tradition that began when families would decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers in a beautiful act of remembrance.

Mainland is honored to partner with veterans who continue to lead and inspire in the franchise space. This Monday, we stand with them and their families in remembering the heroes who never made it home.

Is local PR better than national PR?

According to two new Right at Home owners, the answer is relatively simple!

“While national credibility gets attention, local relevance drives the action. Potential candidates are seeing themselves in franchisee stories and looking to real franchisees as key validators, building their confidence in the model, potential for success and taking that next step.” - Julie Maw, Vice President at Mainland.

Learn more about how a feature in The Gazette (GazetteXtra) spotlighted the brand’s expansion into the Janesville, Wisconsin market and ultimately led to a pivotal touchpoint for Katie Villa and Mary Jo Villa, a mother-daughter duo who had been exploring their next chapter.

🚀 We love seeing franchise momentum!

What Now Sacramento captured the incredible momentum of Keke's Breakfast Cafe as Neetu Bali & Sanjeev Bali prepare to bring the Florida-born daytime concept to Northern California. They plan to secure their first location by late 2026, with the inaugural opening slated for early 2027 and additional sites to follow.

“We want to create that ‘neighborhood go-to’ where regulars feel like family, and the atmosphere is always warm and welcoming. Ultimately, we want to build on an already radiant brand, Keke’s, and bring to Sacramento a community staple, fueled by genuine hospitality and the simple joy of a morning well spent.” -Neetu and Sanjeev Bali

What can making a PB&J teach you about creative deliverables?

Communication 💬 Specificity 📍 Collaboration 🤝

This week, Mainland had our first Lunch & Learn, led by our Digital Team.

It was great to take a moment to refresh and reshare what we are doing, how we contribute to the overall vision at Mainland, and how we think we can improve for our clients (because we believe that improvement is mandatory!).

During this meeting, they drove home a simple idea through "The PB&J Experiment."

⭐ Digital work is "literal" work

When it comes to creative assets, we often assume our clients, designers, or developers "just get it." We assume "clean design" or "make it pop" has a universal definition. This, sometimes, causes endless revisions or "missing the mark".

So, we made things literal...with a PB&J. Simple instructions, but when taken literally, lead to fun disaster.

"Put the PB on the bread" = Rubbing a jar of peanut butter on bread

"Put the bread on a plate" = That whole loaf of bread on plate

"Wipe off the knife" = Our digital coordinator wearing a poncho for a reason

At Mainland, we are encouraged to be well-rounded marketers. This means, to some extent, thinking like a designer, developer, writer, or video editor.

THE ADVICE: Creative assets are all about over communication and consideration with feedback.

Throwback to this great interview with Colleen Elliott and Lynn Quintana of Seniors Helping Seniors Home Care of Boulder County, Broomfield, & Brighton. Colleen Elliott is redefining the concept of retirement by empowering older adults to find a new chapter of purpose as caregivers. "As long as you love being around people and want to give back of yourself, you get and receive as much as you give. It keeps me going." — Lynn Quintana, Caregiver at Seniors Helping Seniors.
