Every month, report day happens whether the numbers are good or not.

That is on purpose. A client should never have to wonder what is happening in their account. Plain English, what moved, what did not, and what we are doing about it either way.

A quick look at how that actually works. Link in comments.

The first three photos on your Google Business Profile decide the call.

Homeowners scroll fast. Before they read a single review, they have already formed an opinion off whatever photos show up first. Stock imagery or blurry job site shots in that top slot cost you calls before the homeowner even scrolls further.

Broke down what those first three photos should actually be here. Link in comments.

What does one missed call actually cost your roofing company?

More than the job you did not book. It is the review you never got, the referral that never happened, and the marketing spend that brought that call in and then went nowhere.

Broke down the real math here. Link in comments.

Sometimes the roofer with fewer reviews still wins the call.

Count is not the whole story. A homeowner scanning reviews is reading for specifics, how you handled a problem, whether you showed up when you said you would. Twelve detailed reviews can beat forty generic ones.

Broke down what actually matters in a review here. Link in comments.

The day three follow-up closes more roofing jobs than day one.

Most roofers either never follow up or do it too soon, while the homeowner is still shopping around. Day three hits a different window. The urgency has settled, the other quotes are in, and a well-timed call stands out instead of feeling pushy.

Broke down why the timing matters this much here. Link in comments.

We never lock clients into a long-term contract.

Month to month, always. If the system is working, you stay because it is working, not because you are stuck. If it is not working, that conversation happens fast instead of getting buried in fine print.

That is not a risk for us. It is pressure to keep earning it every single month

One builder standardizing Class 4 shingles across every new home in Alberta is a signal most roofing contractors are still sleeping on.

Homes by Avi just made UL Class 4 impact-resistant shingles the default on all new detached builds in Alberta starting August 1. That is not a marketing move. That is a volume builder reading the math and acting on it. A 2024 analysis puts the benefit-cost ratio at 3 to 1, meaning Class 4 pays for itself in avoided damage in about five years. With $6 billion in Alberta hail losses in the last five years alone, builders and homeowners are not waiting around for a rebate program to come back.

The contractors who win in this market will be the ones already fluent in Class 4 product lines and the insurance discount conversation before the customer brings it up.

GMS and The Home Depot are quietly building a national distribution network across Canada, and Halifax just got a new node in that system.

D.L. Building Materials and Peridot Supply opened a shared facility at 200 Akerley Boulevard in Dartmouth. One location, roofing systems, waterproofing, drywall, insulation, fasteners, and jobsite delivery. GMS runs more than 320 distribution centres across Canada and the United States and is a wholly owned part of The Home Depot's supply chain. That is not a local supplier opening a second location. That is a national operator planting a flag in your market.

Roofing contractors in the HRM who walk in early, open an account, and build a relationship with that local team will have an advantage. The ones who wait will be competing against guys who already have it.

Most roofing contractors walk past community donation opportunities without realizing they are one of the few trades that can actually finish a project like this in a single day.

Ark Academy in Diepsloot built a whole learning centre out of ecobricks, plastic bottles packed with waste, to keep costs down. Ninety percent done. Kids still waiting because the roof is not on yet. Staff spent last winter holding plastic sheeting over learners during rain. That is the gap between a finished building and a usable one, and it is exactly the gap a roofing contractor can close.

One day of donated labor and materials gets you a completed community project, documented work, genuine goodwill, and relationships in a market most of your competitors have never even looked at. That is not charity. That is smart positioning with a human story behind it.

The contractor who shows up here wins more than one roof.

The retail roofing customer has no insurance claim.

They are paying out of pocket, which means the sales conversation is completely different from a storm damage job. No adjuster in the picture, no claim number to reference. Just you, the homeowner, and the actual price.

Broke down what wins that conversation here. Link in comments.
