It's prime hiring season! 🀝 How does your organization announce new hires to students, staff, and the community?

Many districts are hiring an abundance of new employees over the summer, producing many new faces in the building for students, staff, and families come fall. πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ«πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ«πŸ‘¨πŸΌβ€πŸ«

To help put a face to the new names, consider compiling a list of new hires to share with stakeholders in early August. For each new hire, include their:

βœ… Photo
βœ… Preferred Salutation
βœ… First and Last Name
βœ… Background
βœ… District Responsibilities

This information can then be shared with stakeholders as a single email, newsletter, flyer, or video.

By compiling all applicable information around a single theme (i.e. new hires), it diminishes the number of communications stakeholders receive. ✴ Research tells us that people are more likely to engage with a communication when they receive unified, non-emergent details in one, concise message versus many messages of similar content. ✴

Always communicate with the School Board first, followed shortly thereafter by staff. These stakeholders are key communicators for the organization - they are often the frontline for conversations about the organization and its happenings, so it is imperative they receive timely, transparent, and accurate news before the general public.

And finally, don't forget to communicate with students and/or families via email and social media. Utilizing social media will also provide the community a chance to learn more about what's happening within the district.

Moorhead Area Public Schools, Fargo Public Schools, and West Fargo Public Schools have policies that prohibit the distribution of individual, district-wide handouts and backpack stuffers to students. Rather, outside organizations may reach these students and their families by purchasing ad space in each district's monthly catalog.

Hansen Public Relations offers a seamless system for ensuring your organization is uniquely represented in each school's publication on a monthly or as-needed basis.

For just $25, we handle the submission and payment process with the school district(s) on your behalf. For an additional $75, we can even design the ad for you, if needed. Once your ad is published, you’ll receive a single invoice from us to account for the school district ad fee, submission fee, and design fee (as needed).

➑️ No worrying about varying ad guidelines and deadlines or multiple order forms and invoices - just one order form and one invoice! ⬅️

Don't miss out on the opportunity to seamlessly market your organization's programs and events to thousands of students and families - submit the order form today! ‡️

It's the end of an era for north Fargo and Fargo Public Schools as the district completes demolition of its second oldest school, Horace Mann Elementary School, at 1025 N 3rd St.

The school was built in 1915 and, unlike many of today's urban school buildings, has only ever served as an elementary school.

As part of the district's Long-Range Facility Plan, the historic Horace Mann Elementary School is being demolished to make way for a new building (also to be named Horace Mann Elementary School) that is scheduled to open in Fall 2028. The new Horace Mann Elementary will serve over 400 elementary (K - 5) students from the current Horace Mann, Roosevelt, and Madison attendance areas. Once these three schools are consolidated in the new facility, the existing Roosevelt and Madison school buildings will be closed and either repurposed or sold.

Come July, organizations are in summer mode! πŸ–οΈ For some, this may mean a time to disconnect, while for others it may mean an opportune time to get things done! Either way, the summer is half over and the new year is fast approaching.

In addition to these holidays and observances this month, consider what your organization needs to communicate with stakeholders mid-summer. Popular topics for July communications may include:

βœ… Academic Calendar: first day of school, academic calendar, fall open house
βœ… Activities: first day of fall practices, policies and procedures, summer weight room schedule, summer open gym schedule, summer events, activity fees
βœ… Buildings & Grounds: summer access, office hours, facility use request procedures, construction updates, summer maintenance update
βœ… Employment: new hires, immediate openings, staff reassignments, negotiations update
βœ… Financials: new accounts payable/receivable procedures

It's prime hiring season! 🀝 How does your organization announce new hires to students, staff, and the community?

If a new administrator is hired, consider publishing a press release to introduce them, share their background, and identify their responsibilities within the organization.

A press release can easily be disseminated through a mass notification system to email the School Board, staff, students, families, and local media on a predetermined, staggered schedule. If possible, include the new administrator's most recent professional photo so that stakeholders can put a face to a name.

❗️Don't forget to share the news on social media, as well! Posts on Instagram, Facebook, X, and the website can be published at the same time as the media is informed. ❗️

For example, a press release publication schedule may look like this:

- 10:00AM ➑️ School Board Members (and, when applicable, hiring committee members)
- 10:30AM ➑️ All Staff
- 11:00AM ➑️ Families (and, when applicable, students)
- 11:15AM ➑️ Local Media, Instagram, X, Facebook, and Website

Always communicate with the School Board first, followed shortly thereafter by staff. These stakeholders are key communicators for the organization - they are often the frontline for conversations about the organization and its happenings, so it is imperative they receive timely, transparent, and accurate news before the general public.

After a furious finish to May, June really snuck up on us! While some districts are in their last week of school, many are enjoying their first days of summer. 🌞

In addition to these holidays and observances this month, consider what your organization needs to communicate with stakeholders to mark the end of the school year and the start of the summer. Popular topics for June communications may include:

βœ… Academic Calendar: professional development schedule, 2026 - 2027 first day of school, 2026 - 2027 academic calendar

βœ… Activities: first day of fall practices, summer weight room schedule, summer open gym schedule, summer events, 2026 - 2027 fees

βœ… Buildings & Grounds: summer access, office hours, facility use request procedures

βœ… Employment: immediate openings, contract deadlines, lane change deadlines, staff reassignments, retirement deadlines, negotiations update, future openings

βœ… Financials: last date of fiscal calendar, accounts payable/receivable deadlines

βœ… Professional Development: date(s), agenda(s), summer checkout procedures, summer course offerings, fall workshop dates, local continuing education opportunities

βœ… Registration: requirements, registration window, instructions, location, forms, publication of teacher assignments

βœ… Transportation: anticipated changes for next year’s busing, 2026 – 2027 parking fees

If you find June is a quiet month for district communications, that is fine, too! Many districts do a soft close for a portion of June, which provides stakeholders (particularly staff) with a chance to disconnect and refresh themselves before work for the new year begins in August. πŸ’“
