⚠️ Swollen Laptop Battery? Don’t Ignore It.

If your laptop’s case is bulging, the trackpad feels tight, or the keyboard looks slightly raised, you could be dealing with a swollen lithium-ion battery—and that’s something you don’t want to put off.

🔋 What’s happening inside?
Laptop batteries are made up of tightly packed lithium-ion cells. Over time (or due to damage, heat, or poor charging conditions), these cells can break down chemically and start producing gas. Since the battery casing is sealed, that gas has nowhere to go—so the battery physically expands.

🔥 What causes swelling?
• Age and normal wear (most batteries degrade after a few years)
• Excessive heat (blocked vents, hot environments, heavy loads)
• Overcharging or poor-quality chargers
• Physical damage or manufacturing defects

⚠️ Why it’s dangerous:
• Swelling can damage your laptop’s internal components
• It may crack the casing or push against the screen/trackpad
• In severe cases, it can lead to leaks, smoke, or even fire

🛠️ What should you do?
• Stop using the device immediately
• Do NOT try to puncture or press the battery
• Get it replaced by a professional as soon as possible

A swollen battery isn’t just a minor inconvenience—it’s a warning sign. Catch it early, and you can save your device (and avoid a serious hazard).

If you’re not sure what you’re seeing, feel free to reach out—I’m happy to take a look.

Happy 40th birthday to Windows!

On November 20, 1985, Microsoft released Windows 1.0. It required a minimum of 256 KB of RAM, two double sided floppy disk drives, a graphics adapter, and a mouse. 512 KB of RAM and a hard disk were recommended. It was not a full operating system like today's versions of Windows are. It ran on top of MS-DOS.

Happy Birthday to the City of Hamilton, Alabama!

On this day, the City of Hamilton was officially renamed for its benefactor, Captain A.J. Hamilton from the Town of Toll Gate. It was changed in his honor, in 1882, due to the 40 acres that he donated to establish our great city that we proudly call home!! Today we celebrate our 143rd Anniversary of our founding.

Here's a reminder not to leave your electronics in your vehicle or anywhere in direct sunlight. They can overheat quickly, whether running or not. This applies to laptops, tablets, phones, and just about anything that has a battery in it.

A scary incident involving an overheated laptop prompted a reminder from fire officials.
