Success can make you LESS sympathetic toward others.

Sounds counterintuitive, doesn't it?

But when you've overcome adversity, you start recognizing how much our choices dictate our circumstances.

And it becomes increasingly difficult to sympathize with people who continue making poor choices while complaining about the results.

The reality is, you can't want something better for someone more than they want it for themselves.

Are you confusing the appearance of success with what actually creates it?

Successful businesses have nice offices, new trucks, and expensive equipment. But buying those things doesn't make your business successful.

In this clip from the MoxieMen Podcast, Zach explains the fascinating concept of a "cargo cult" and how businesses fall into the trap of confusing correlation with causation.

Just because successful businesses do something doesn't mean doing it will make you successful.

Great leaders don’t look alike.

Sean McVay is high energy. Kirk Ferentz is measured. Their personalities and approaches to coaching couldn’t be much more different.

But Zach points out something interesting.

When you look at successful teams, businesses and organizations, they tend to arrive at many of the same places. Strong culture. Good people. Clear expectations. Doing things the right way.

There’s no single personality required to be a great leader.

There are just a lot of different ways to get to the same place.

There’s really no such thing as “low standards.”

You either have standards for yourself or you don’t.

And people can see them.

How you handle your money. How you take care of yourself. How you present yourself. The energy you bring into a room.

We like to think these are private choices.

They’re not.

Everything you do tells the world a little bit about who you are.

We stormed the field... over beating Western Michigan.

The game was over. Everyone was booing.

Then one second went back on the clock. Hail Mary. Pandemonium.

Next thing we know, we're on the field celebrating with strangers.

“Hard Knocks” doesn’t tell you the whole truth.

Zach VanValkenburg made the Raiders practice squad, signed a lease in Vegas, and got cut before the first game. Two weeks later, he was driving home to Michigan when the Rams called.

That’s life in the NFL when you’re not a highly drafted player with millions of dollars invested in your success. Your margin for error is a hell of a lot smaller.

We talked about the Raiders, the Rams, what happens when football ends, and how those experiences eventually translated into entrepreneurship and building Lake Michigan Window & Door.

AI is coming for jobs.

So here's the question:

Can what you do be done by a robot better than you?

If the answer is yes, I'd be worried.

The best protection against AI isn't complaining about it, ignoring it, or hoping it goes away.

It's becoming really difficult to replace.

Everything you accept sends a message.

Bedros Keuilian has built a $200 million-a-year business empire, and he believes standards have a lot to do with success.

How you carry yourself. How you maintain your home. The people you surround yourself with. What you tolerate from yourself and others.

None of it happens in isolation. It tells people something about you.

Your standards shape your identity.

And low standards have a way of attracting more low standards.

Wes Watson might be the saddest story on the internet right now.

Not because he failed. Because for a while, a lot of us actually wanted his redemption story to be true.

And here’s the strange part: Wes Watson said some genuinely profound things.

“Strength is restraint.”

“Adversity introduces a man to himself.”

There were lessons worth hearing. Unfortunately, there’s also a lesson in what happened to the guy delivering them.

On the internet, anyone can be anything.

Eventually, though, people tend to show you who they really are.
